Strange fish caught by a guy I know via the internet. He sent it to me for identification. It was caught while deep jigging. I had never seen one of these before. Quite a unique fish.

Looks like it should be named the diamond plate fish, but actually its real name is stout beardfish!

It isn't a member of the jack family. It is a member of the beardfish family. Not really closely related to other fish other than a few other beardfish species.
