Not trying to be a smarty ... But as long as we have the moon orbiting the earth , we will have an incoming and outgoing tide every day . Winter or summer .
You should look it up . Pretty interesting .
Your not going to have an outgoing tide 3 weeks in a row in the morning . Just like you won't have a full moon 3 weeks in a row .
Wind can surely affect the tide there's no doubt about that . But you will have an incoming and outgoing tide everyday , and it changes with the force of the moon(every day it's normally minutes different) It's impossible to have the same tide 3 weeks straight . It makes a cycle from the strongest tide to the weakest tide over a months time . And then it cycles over again the next month . Unless something weird is going on in PAC ...
I didn't mean to come across the wrong way . But most places I fish if the tide is coming in its not worth even trying . We may catch a few but not the numbers we will on outgoing tide . So its crucial ! Lol
I've read some on the tide and moon and how everything works but not nearly as much as I should . Tide to me can make or break a fishing trip for us anyway .
You know I wish I had the time to study up on the moon and soluner tables just to figure out what makes the animals more active during certain times .
I have a couple buddy's wont go in the woods to deer hunt unless the soluner table says it's . I also look at it from time to time during hunting season just to see what happens during the peak times .
Anyways I do know that there are normally a high and low tide everyday . If it seems like it's the same tide everyday then it could possibly be the wind . On occasion we'll have a east or southeast wind for 10 days in a row . All the water will do is pile up and flood and never go out . The wind just keeps pushing it in . But under normal circumstances it should go in and out daily . If its coming in hard at 7:00 am , within two weeks it should be going out hard at 7:00 am in the same area .
there is a high and low tide every day, sometimes 2 as someone mentioned.
the issue i have noticed is there is few to no high tides at or just before sunrise in the summertime when i remember most of my fishing trips happening.
i have been fishing every chance i can since i was 8yrs old and back then i never cared about tides or weather just what time to get up.
the majority of my fishing is now done in golden meadow and i swear there might be only 1 day a month with a high tide in the morning and even that is most often at a minimal or no change in tide.
as an example, look at the pelican island tides for august, the high tides are all at noon to 1pm so if you want a falling tide then its strictly limited to evening fishing only. for those living nearby it isnt an issue but i dont go fishing till dark when i have a 1 1/2 hour drive home to look forward to and then need to clean fish when i get home.
as for rising or falling tides, well it matters a lot from my observations, a falling tide catches more numbers and bigger sized fish where on a rising tide i see catches of smaller and more off target fish such as hard head cats, channel mullet, sheephead, drum, and catches of reds and specks arent as numerous in size or numbers
I know what you mean . We used to go a bunch , golden meadow , Leeville , Elmer's island . It can be awesome at times but like you say , then you have an hour and a half drive home , then clean fish . We could of almost been weather men , the way we would try to predict the weather , wind , and tides . But we would go every weekend and just adjust our fishing according to the weather . I guess get a game plan together .
The surf is awesome during the summer and the marsh is awesome during the winter . Just that drive ! We have slowed way down from going , and hardly ever go any more . It's definitely a hit or miss deal though .
I've always fished sacalait ... The tide around here is crucial for that also . It helps tremendously to live locally where you fish . You can go fish and catch 80 sacalait then tell someone where you caught and they go to the same place and not get a bite or only catch a few . If the tide isn't right here it's just a waste .
Now days I mainly fish near my home and it's also hit and miss . The only thing different about fishing here is I can just basically go outside and look to see if the water is coming or going . And it's not a 1 and 1/2 hour drive home.
i just dont do fish till dusk or do evening trips anymore like i did when i was a lot younger (fish dawn to dusk) because after a day of fishing, i find trying to make that long drive at night after it gets dark is just imposible for me to stay awake driving home and its just too unsafe.
its just too bad i cant afford staying the night so i can hit the better tides.
you know its amazing sometimes the things we notice that we never bothered noticing before. i learned about tides and moon phases to catch more fish and in the process thinking about these things and trying to pick the best times to fish may sometimes make me overlook good times to go fish even if the tides arent right lol.
just today i went with almost no tide and rain forcasted yet i caught about 60 white trout and a dozen specks but i did get caught in the rain.
so far i have never caught fish in heavy rain, i guess the noise from the rain scares the fish? but as soon as the rain turned to a drizzle the cork started sinking again lol.
By the way ... There are two full moons this month ! Nothing happens special this month . We are only having two full moons because there are 5 weeks in August . It has nothing to do with having two high tides in one day either . I looked the two high tides up the other day and couldn't really comprehend it . I would have to see how it works on a smaller scale to be able to understand it . But if I had to describe it I would have to say the gravity has some sort of ripple affect in the worlds oceans ?? Idk ?
But anyway two full moons . Ever heard the term once in a blue moon ? Well the second full moon this month is considered the blue moon . It only happens every now and then (5 weeks in a month) so ... A lil trivia that I did not know .
