Its two rodeos at once , Blind river and black lake . We normally enter both and there's no limit on jugs also this year . It's been 50 jugs per boat so ... Not sure how that's going to work out .
It's usually pretty crowded at the weigh ins and fishing the jugs . Last year we fished middle bayou off north pass , and other people were fishing that area too . I've never fished around here close like Amite or tickfaw during the rodeo and could only imagine how many jugs are in blind river that night especially with no jug limit .
We stay with the jugs all night because I'm sure someone will mistakenly take your garfish off for you . We'll bring a thermacell and take a nap in the boat before sun up . Not everyone does that I'm sure but nobody has run our lines yet either .
If I were you I would go to the weigh in early too . The sun can be brutal waiting in line to weigh your fish . Last year we didn't even weigh in , we waited in line and realized we didn't have the weight by looking in the other boats . So me and my son left the boat , went home ,showered and went to bed .
There are other people fishing middle bayou and north pass but it's way less than around here . We are going to try a different area this year . rnrnBring lots of gas too . I had to get my wife to meet me in manchac last year to bring gas about 11 o'clock at night . LolrnrnIt's fun though man , I'm pretty sure you'll be glad you fished . Good luck to y'all !
Ive never used Stobs ... Some people use jugs and a piece of cane , some just use the cane . When you catch a fish the cane will stick straight up , and it makes it easier to grab hold to . Some say that a big gar will feel the big jug and leave it alone , so they go with a smaller cane so the bigger wiser gar won't feel it and take the bait ..
I like to use pieces of bambo cane 2 or 3ft in lenth tied close to my jugs. In my opinion the the pieces of cane do a couple of things, help as a drag. If there is a breeze of wind the the cane will slow it down from being pushed to bank, and you can always use it as a grab handle. Thats just how I was always fixed mine, Good luck to all!
STP, did you catch any cats? You fishing the Amite system?
