Inshore Fishing in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana
07/20/2012 Rigolet's Report
Not so good night and morning! Along with the good trips I must also post the bad!
So last night we went night fishing with the guys who made the video for Louisiana Sportsman a couple years back. Steve and his Dad invited Phillip and I to come along. We left their camp in the west pearl river and headed to the Rigolet's train bridge around 7 p.m. We anchored up on the end of the rising tide and started fishing out of their 32 foot twin vee (one hell of a boat!) We threw live shrimp and pogies at first and caught some trash fish and Steve's young nephew Cole caught a good trout on a live shrimp. When the tide started falling it was just about dark. Phillip and I started throwing h&h TKO'S carolina rigged and started picking up trout along with a few drum before it got dark. I'm thinking OK the fish are here should be a great night!
Well turns out we couldn't get their generator working so we decided to give night fishing a shot another night. Bummer but I had a blast anyway and we met some great people. These guys are super nice and genuinely good people!
By the way, Steve called me this morning and said the generator started right up this morning! hahaha
So because I ended up not fishing that night I decided to fish my good friend Doctor Bob Weiss this morning. The plans were to fish one spot all morning with big bait and try and catch that one BIG fish. Doctor Bob caught a big 7.1 pound speck Wednesday morning and is the leader of the STAR tournament right now. The guy is a great fisherman. He fished yesterday and didn't catch anything but when your fishing for that one slob trout you can expect that.
Armed with BIG croaker and BIG shrimp, we met up with Dudley, Dumas, and Yano Serra this morning before sun up. The big fish decided not to meet up with us though! We caught drum and small trout but not the slob we were looking for! We fished hard all morning and called it quits around 10 a.m. Dudley, Dumas, and Yano went to fish the Train Bridge and called and said they didn't do to well. We then finished the day off with a great meal at southside cafe. This was the first time I had ever ate there and I WILL BE BACK! The food was great and our waitress was real cool and very easy on the eye's.
Gonna take a break from fishing tomorrow and relax!
God Bless,
John Rucker

Enough for supper!
Good report, not to many times do you hear that the bite is slow, but you never know unless you go! All this rain is a bummer too. The boat is hooked to the truck and ready but the weather is not cooperating. I did get out Wed. 7/18/12 and caught a big Red and two keeper trout before the big rain storm.
