Dr.Spot is correct. I fish the beach when ever possible and July is a tough month for consistency. One major factor along the shoreline is, without a major tide range the relatively shallow water is so hot that the dissolved oxygen level is low and the fish get sluggish so you have to change your tactics a bit. If your fish lures you'll have better success with a slower presentation than you're accustomed to in the summer. If you're fishing live finned fish bait you've got to give it a 'little' hop now and then to trigger a bite. Plus I find that a breaking surf is better than a smooth calm one. It helps to oxygenate the water and it disorients the bait making them easier prey which helps to stimulate the feeding frenzy.
Sorry DJ, this wasnt about u ya'll at all. We enjoyed our hunt with ya'll and u did a fine thing with ur turny. I made a little joke about drew-b and the higher-ups decided i was bickering and deleted my comment. I guess they didnt realize that we knew each other and i was teasing u both in good fun. Sorry for the problem. sent via ponyexpress@SIBC.
Some really good points in this thread..Grand idle beach fishing, especially this time of year, can be rough..the thing i found over the years is the trout are most of the time ALWAYS there, but yoiu just have to find a bait they want..you can go with live shrimp all day and not have a hit, but switch to a black and yellow sparkle and you limit out..i usually start with shrimp under a cork, then set up a carolina rig, if that dosnt work then i start on artificial..If your with a group of people, everybody usde different baits and then you can narrow down easier..Just my opinion..Goodluck
I have fished along the beach for years but last year and this year it's a hit and mis. I am trying to get a good week end to give it a try. But the report have not been that great.
