Charter Trip Catastrophe

This past Friday I had a charter trip booked out of Boudreaux's Marina in Cocodrie for a bachelor party. Figured it would be nice to let someone else take us out instead of going in my boat. I had 4 guys drive all night from Texas to my camp on Four Point Road. We arrived at the marina at 5:15am ready to get on the trout. After watching the radar we decided to wait a little while to let the storms break up. Well 9am rolled around and we left out. After we left we stopped and got bait and headed out. We got to our first stop and caught 5 or 6 hard heads in 10 min. Left there and went to a second spot. Fished for 15 min. and caught a few hard heads. We picked up and thought that we were headed to another spot, instead we ended up back at the marina. Guide said we were going to check the radar and give it another shot. Well before we know it, the guide put the boat up. Then we were suprised with a bill of $800 for 25 min. of fishing and a 2 hour boat ride. My friends and I were shocked and pissed. They did not offer to reschedule or cancel the trip that morning after seeing how the weather was. I am highly disappointed that we were treated like that especially that I have been a customer there since I was a kid. Never again will I recommend a trip there again. I will just fish out of my own boat.

and

now we wait for the other side of the story, where the guide advised you to reschedule, but you insisted on fishing this day cuz it was so important. Never have I heard of a bad trip out of Boudreaux's and I have been on this website for 15 years.

Seen lots of complaints like this that are usaully off base.

time will tell, poop will smell, and water seeks it's own level.

The Truth

I have never heard anything bad either. I always went out with him as a kid when he was on Four Point Road and 3 times since he moved to Cocodrie. I have always recommended him. I would have not cared if it was cancelled or rescheduled, that's why it is called fishing. But, when you pay a guide, you pay them to know where the fish are or say 'hey, the fishing is gonna suck, I advise you not to waste your money' Do you really think that people have $800 just to spend on a boat ride.

Do you know the guides name? 800 dollars is a reasonable price if you get on the fish.I charge 800 also, but all my expenses come out of that 800,,fuel,bait,sandwiches,drinks,fish cleaning, tackle.its more into it than you think fellas..guiding and charter fishing is not a gravy job..i do it cause i meet interesting people and i love to be on the water.

Not an easy job ?

Seachaser , don't take this the wrong way but not an easy job ? I can think of a few different occupations with a lil more stress . I could understand how it could be stressful if you bring a group fishing and only catch a few hard heads and then charge $800.00 ! That would be stressful for sure . That's every serious fishermans dream job , other than maybe being a porn star .... Lol but seriously I think I could live with the hardships of being a guide especially if you can charge full price even when you don't catch .

Good Business

Guys, My experience is that usual and customary inshore trips run about 550-600 for four with some 'specials' in the $500 range. I also know that guides don't have 'gravy' jobs. It can be stressful knowing that every Joe who books a trip with three of his buddies is 'Expecting' to catch fish...and a lot of them. It's like anything else:It's a service industry and dealing with the public can be trying at times. At the same time, that 'Joe' who is paying good money for a charter expects good service; but clients must also understand that 'things happen'. If there's give and take on both sides, usually no problems. And that brings me to my point: 'What ever happened to good business practices and common sense in this country??'. I travel extensively, and it's not really that different whereever I go. Maybe it's just that everybody is trying to 'get theirs' and a Dollar is a Dollar. I don't know who is right or wrong in this case; maybe neither party? But, as a general 'good (or bad) business practice', this is what happened to me four years ago: I use to book the same Orange Beach offshore guide for years (1991-2008) while vacationing at our place in Gulf Shores. He is a nice fella and usually pleasant and accomodating. I would spend between 1200 (early days) and 2500 per trip for his boat for a one day trip. (all inclusive). I would also tip well and usually took care of all the food and drinks. (Hey, we're from LA, right?). The last trip I made with him was in June of 2008. My father-in-law had just recovered from a long and serious illness. Short story is that we went out and father-in-law got really sick only 24 minutes from the dock and before the first line was dropped.(not seasick related). I advised the Captain (my guide of almost 17 years) that we needed to call it and go in due to the situation. Well, having already sent him a company check ahead of time (in full) for the date (as I always did); I inquired about how he would handle it. I recognized that he had expenses and ('maybe'??) another trip that he could have booked for our day (it was a week day). He said, well, once we hit the pass, the trip is paid for. Really??? $2500.00. I was taken aback and said: 'Well Cap, that's not good business for a loyal customer of almost 17 years. Would you consider even allowing me half of the trip as credit for next year?' NOPE! was the anwer I got. He seemed aggravated and; evidently, it wasn't just a bad day. He NEVER contacted me again after that to apologize, explain or say screw you. Point is, common sense is not so common anymore. I didn't expect this guy to take a bath on a loss trip and cost becasue of an illness on the boat, BUT, had he just handled it differently, I would have gone out of my way to remain a good customer and to refer busienss (as I also often did). I truly believe what goes around comes around. Stay safe out there and take care of each other!. Latch.

WOW

I can't believe anyone would say that a charter fisherman's life is a gravy job with no stress. First of all I am not a charter captain. I have given it alot of thought but it wouldn't work out for me. Them captains work extremely hard and put in well over 12 hour work days. Their job has never heard of air conditioning. And no stres??!! they have an unpredictable career, their paycheck isn't garunteed like the normal persons. I am sure every charter captain goes thru their times of worrying how to make ends meet and worrying if there going to have enough money come winter time when the charter fishing is slow.

Charters

I weld pipe , and have never worked in the a/c . We have slow times of the year also and at times wonder how I'm gonna get the money to pay something , usually for recreational purposes , but every occupation has some degree of stress I'm sure .

Ever heard the saying , a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work ? If I had the means , I would take the stress of a charter captain any day over the stress of any other occupation . I'm sure the reason people guide is because they love it and have a passion for the outdoors . I've never heard of any charter captains going to a psychiatrist and complaining of stress ....

GRAVY???

I can tell you from experience, running a charter boat can be one of the most demanding jobs. Just the physical wear and tear on a person fishing EVERY day, is hard. I've seen alot of folks struggle to get out of bed on Sun, after hitting it hard on Sat! Do it 150 + times a year! I know this bc I've done it. Once I ran 56 days in a row without a single day off! It was one of the hardest thing I have ever done. Throw bad weather, tough fishing, and john q public on top of that, and I grant you there aint a whole bunch of folks can do it! Not if you really care. Its not easy out there, and nobody got your back, its just you and your decisions. So if you think its easy, you just dont know!

Charter fisherman's stress??

You guys have got to be kidding me right? Charter fisherman’s life is full of stress? That would be the comment of a person who has never had to really do back breaking work for a buck! Dig ditches in the blazing sun all day or have to empty garbage cans all day.. A charter fisherman picks his own job just like the rest of us. We all work hard for our money and to have terrible service like the OP had is just unacceptable! I would have not paid the whole bill. He would have gotten maybe $200.00 and I would have walked out the door. He was paid for a service and didn't deliver! If you think the charter captain is right I'm selling top not used cars for a great price. Come and buy one from me!

Guides

I don't understand why some people think being a guide is a glamorous, stress-free job! Up early, go to bed late and every day in the sun with NO shade!! Keep in mind that a lot of a guide's charters have ZERO fishing experience. You have joe-joe's that can't cast, can't fish, step on equipment, break equipment, expect a guide to wipe their butt and treat them like a king. Once the trip is over, the fish have to be cleaned. Once the fish are cleaned and the customer is on their way, the boat has to be cleaned and made ready for the next day. Fishing as a charter captain is a JOB, not a hobby. I love to fish but would never want to HAVE to fish!!
With all that being said, I have never heard of a inshore trip costing $800. That is just too high for a trout/red trip.

I don't know of any guides that charge $800 for a 1 boat inshore trip.
I don't know about any of y'all but i enjoy fishing.
Once you start guiding it becomes your JOB.
If you become a well known / popular guide then you can / will be fishing at least 5 days a week during the season.
Don't know that i would still enjoy fishing anymore
if i HAD to fish and produce fish for others 4 -5 times a week.

Guides

Ive never used a guide to know how hard they work or how much stress they may have . But I have seen them on tv high fiving the customers . I have spent over half of my life working in oil refineries and chemical plants all over the country and would much rather stay home and take a person or group of people fishing . I have nothing against guides what so ever and would much rather spend my day in the sun fishing than working in the sun inside the fence of an oil refinery . If its the 12 hour days that y'all are so concerned with , whoopty doo ! Most plant workers do 80 or 90 days of that in a row ,a couple to three times a year and some of that is 16 hours a day . So ... All I'm saying is I would be glad to take a green fisherman fishing 5 or 6 days a week or even 7 . And if we don't catch I'd still get paid $800.00 ??? Sure I'd do that in a heart beat .

No argument

Drew in no way am I trying to argue with you buddy . Lord knows you would win just on my inability to spell ! And don't know how this post got to this point . I think someone said that the guides had a stressful job ? And that somehow justified the guide for charging $800.00 for a few hard heads . I would never charge someone that . I would of at least knocked $50 off . Lol latchknee was charged $2500 for a short boat ride because of his ailing father in law ! That's insane . I know that not all guides would have charged the full price and they're not all the same . Obviously I wouldn't know what there job duties are because I've never hired a guide , and your right , all I know is what I've seen on tv . But evidently 12 hrs is harsh on some people and if I had the opportunity I would rather spend my 12 hours in the great outdoors , rather than confined in a refinery . No matter what the stress level is .

Every day thing

Ever since I can remember I run about 300 hooks in lake Maurepas every spring for about 2 months out the year . That's if I'm working in town . It's like a side job but I don't have to do it . And yes I stay up late filleting and bagging catfish also . It's just something I do , a way of life . It's miserable at times but I wouldn't change a thing . If I could afford to quit welding and guide full time , whether it's hard work or not I would do it . Or just commercial fish full time , I would do it . To some that would be back breaking work but I do it all the time anyway !

i would guess the only time a guides job is not stressful is when their off work! i an not a guide but i would guess that trying to make money to keep the business going and provide for the family guiding is not easy. think of the overhead, boat, insurance, fuel, advertising, a truck to pull a 20+ foot boat with insurance, all the tackle and soooo on. i am sure his work follows him home phone ringing all the time. I work hard but i can leave it at work.
I admit it sounds like the guide didn't have good customer service.

The bottom line...

Simple question... Why not just refuse to pay the entire amount? If the guide had an issue with that let him take you to small claims court and make his argument to recover any other expenses he feels he is owed. Case closed, no more my job is better than yours. Cause guys this thread is a loosing battle. Most people feel that their careers are tough in some way. If you haven't worked in the other guys shoes you really don't know. Right?

If I pay you to take me out fishing and we caught a few hardheads and then you headed back. You sir would not get paid... If you decided to contact the police department I would offer my assistance because at this point it becomes a domestic dispute. I paid for a service and the service wasn't fulfilled. I completely understand that there are good and bad days on the water but at this point it should be up to the captain of the boat to make the call to go out and take a shot or not.. This is what he is getting paid for. If the captain recommends a reschedule and the client refuses then it is on the client... The service was filled at this point... I don't want to continue beating a dead subject but in any business if you pay for a service you expect it to be fulfilled...

Gray area!

Verbal dispute is a contract, no doubt but if it isn't in writing then what was verbalized is arguable. A dispute about a verbal contract isn't a criminal offense but rather a domestic dispute. The police would issue summons to appear in court and a judge would decide. At that point the customer could insist that he was told that the trip would be from 6am to 3pm and the captain cancelled the contract therefore breaching the contract. The customer and captain could infinitely argue that he said he said etc... In louisiana the person that makes the contract is responsible for the contracts deficiencies. Judge would probably tell the captain to put things in writing next time and maybe ask how much each party would settle for. Personally, the captain would have had to steal the money from my wallet after he kicked my ass and made sure I was knocked out! Thanks for your story. It makes our decision that much easier when choosing a captain to fish with.

'The police would issue summons to appear in court and a judge would decide.'

This is not entirely correct. We are talking about a civil matter/dispute for which the cops will do nothing but tell them it is a civil matter. In order for one party to the contract to make anything happen with the court, they would have to file a lawsuit. For $800, small claims court would be wisest.

Now if they start throwing fists on the dock, then the cops will get involved, arrest one or both, or issue a summons for a criminal violation.

Save the trouble

I'm just having trouble understanding the whole guide thing . If your wanting to stock your freezer , go to the super market and buy the fish ! Y'all would come out a whole lot cheaper and a lot less trouble . If you want to catch a red fish go on side hwy 1 down there and put a piece of shrimp on and toss it out . Then either way you won't have to worry about captain Boudreaux or his bro in law T-Roy !!

Little things

Well drew , if you figured up $800.00 worth of fish and you and your buddy's split the cost , you would all have like a years worth of fish each . Let's see ... If yall went to the super market ,and let's say $4.00 a pound ? That's 200 pounds of fillet ! If it's 4 of y'all , that's 50 lbs each . Thats a lot of fish even for a Texan . I would find a way to intertain them at Walmart rather than spend the $800.00 on 5 or 6 hard heads . Being your buds are from Texas you could bring them down to the laser tag place and have a shoot em out and send them home with an ice chest of shrimp apiece , plus a lil extra change in their pocket .

This year

I've probably spent $100 for every lb of fish I've kept or given away this year alone. If my trips get any worse this year (It's been slow down in Coco for me), I'll probably hire a charter. Spending $800 to catch more fish would probably reduce my average per lb.!

The point is

The point is if you have a camp and a boat and claim to know so much about GI , why would you ever hire a guide ? I don't know about you but I would rather spend $300 at the camp and have a great weekend , than spend $800 on a guided trip that who knows if you'll catch or not . And hard heads don't count .

PS:I love speckled trout , catfish is awesome , And garfish patties are unbeatable . And if you've ever eaten a redfish , you might as well be eating a gasper goo ! Not much difference there . Theyre both drum .I don't eat either one .

No matter how persuasive you think your friend the cop may be to the out of towners he cannot do them anything. He could not issue a summons because no one has broken the law. It would be up to you to hire an attorney and take the said party to court. Basically your word against mine type of issue.. Cone on man stop grasping at straws.. And I was correct by saying it was a domestic dispute at that point. Because we are arguing over no fish and none payment..

Just give him a check or credit card and your problems are over unless he wants to take you to court for 800 dollars not.
I was in sales for years and I can tell you some stories about my many guide trips. I never had one problem when I took time to check out the guide my problems came on those last min trips. One thing for sure I would never send a guide a deposit unless I sure wanted him for a speical day. Had one guide not show up and took my deposit for the last time.

Correction

Yes 'verbal agreement' and 'civil dispute' is what my brain told my fingers to type but my hands have turrets sometimes. Wouldn't be domestic until someone bitch slapped the captain!

Simply put, if the captain cancelled the trip after two stops and an hour'ish of fishing there's no way I'd pay $800. Perhaps a $200 payment with a $600 fish another day promise at best. Fished with Rene Rice, ONCE, Devlin from Peace Charters, ONCE, and decided that I can go to boot camp and get paid to get treated like a piece of $}{!+ if I so desired!!! I think a good captain would give a brief description of how the day will go. While traveling I need you to x,y,z... when we get to a spot x,y,z... when you hook up and get to the side of the boat x,y,z and so on. Insead of waiting until the last minute to bark out commands with frustration, aggravation, intolerance, etc... while the deckhand tells you quietly, 'he's still upset from the drunkin rowdy group of yesterday'. Many captains are pleasant when you book the trip and when it's time to pay/tip.
After reading this gripe forum it seems like we can mostly agree that we are there for the love of fun that these trips provide. When us pilgrims get back from a trip and complain we're immediately accused of being pissy for not catching much fish. I'd estimate that at least 75% of fisherman want fun over fish. I've taken these reports seriously. I read on and between the lines. I haven't completely given up on a charter trip but I have a list of captains to stay away from, if they're still in business.
Can't wait to see how my comment gets graded this time! LOL

P.S. Mike Lane literally attacked me via telephone when I offered a NON-EMOTIONAL(two weeks later) description of my trip with one of his website paying captains, Capt. Devlin. My report said 'for a report of my adventure with Capt devlin, email me. I recommend Captain Lance Walker for your next trip'. I didn't want to publicly bash the captain but rather share my experience with others before they spent $1800 on miserable trip. I exchanged tongue lashings with Mike Lane and gave him my physical address. He hasen't showed up yet(4yrs ago) but he did remove my post lol! Meanie!

Correct

loco - you are 100% correct about Lance Walker. If I ever go offshore again, it will be with him. Great guy to fish with. I've never fished with Rene Rice but have seen him interact with clients at the dock...total prick.
As for paying to catch fish, I don't care how many fish I can catch on my own, it's nice to pay someone every now and then so I don't have to worry about anything. Just show up and catch fish. No boat to wash, no fish to clean (even though I ALWAYS help clean the fish), and no worries about anything else. For lack of a better way to put it, 'TAKE ME TO THE FISH, MONKEY!!!'
I've been on several guide trips both inshore and offshore. I've caught limits of trout on my own more times that I can count but I still enjoy taking a charter and will continue to do so.

charter

What everybody needs to remember is that it's called FISHING not catching!!! Now I am not taking sides because I recently had a bad trip also. In our case we caught fish but we had a 'captain' with an attitude! I have my own boat and love to fish but I enjoy taking a couple of charters a year to enjoy new areas. Always use someone different to see different areas and maybe pick up a few pointers. I always tell the captain before we leave the dock that I know this is fishing and not catching and we just want to have fun. i had my parents with me on this trip and they are getting up there in age so they lost quite a few fish. Who cares! I know they were having fun and it is a memory I will have when they are gone. BUT our captain with years of experience was 'disgusted' with every lost fish and would say 'we are gonna run out of bait' If I want to go to the livewell and throw every shrimp overboard I will! You are still getting paid! We were having fun PERIOD! Also when we left he drove the marsh like a freaking maniac! My dad is 80 and mom is 75. They got banged up a bit because of him! What you need to remember is that you are in a customer service business and happy customers mean repeat business and we will tell our friends of good and bad experiences. Now to all the clients we all need to remember that it's fishing. These captains work their tails off and can't always load the boat with fish. Respect them also don't be a jerk to them. It's a two way street.
One more thing...Don't trust the 'reports' our captain posted that we caught 150 fish...LIAR! not even close!!!
we have all had good and bad trips so lets not blame all charter captains. 99 out of 100 captains are awesome guys but that one guy gives everyone a bad name.
I won't name our captain because maybe he just had a bad day and i will not be responsible for lost business that will only hurt his family.

To the captains: Thank you for what you do and I respect almost all of you.

Take a kid fishing!!!!!!

Drew

he still posted that we had our limits plus many more!!!! what the knucklehead needs to realize is that the pictures tell it all!!!!!!

He will never get my business or any of my friends business.

I will not let one bad apple ruin the bunch. i will continue to take charters but do a little better research on who I book with. All the captains have an extremely difficult job and the stress has got to be a killer. think about it... how many charter captains are rich? they do this because they love it. The best way for us to show if we enjoyed ourselves is with repeat business and a minimum 20% tip. If your a captain that gets no repeat business or never gets a tip...look in the mirror... and find a new job. And people Yes you tip the captain and any deckhands on the boat if you had an enjoyable trip. And this is not measured by how many fish you caught but the experience you had. And no I didn't tip on my last trip and I will never use him again because it was not a good experience. Also i will not reveal his name because he could have been having a bad day and I don't want my experience to result in lost business. If he continues to act this way he will ruin his business on his own

Guides

Speaking of guides, does anyone know if Anthony Randazzo still does trips? It's been several years since I've been with him. I have used him numerous times in the past. He didn't really advertise because his repeat business was almost all he could handle. Looking at maybe going this fall since I lost my hunting lease.

You got screwed

Pay by credit card...dispute charge. Lesson learned.

Some of you here must be guides to take up for that con man.

$800 for 2 hours of hardheads is not acceptable under any circumstances.
Reschedule the trip or offer a discount.

Guides business is mostly based on word of mouth.

Hello to the OB!!!! Can't believe that guide wasn't potlickin' for trout! That's what they do best!

Cadello !

Thank you ! Cadello !!

Why would anyone take up for this guide ??? If I hired a guide and they wanted to charge me $800 for a few hard heads I would be outraged ! Everyone works hard for their money no matter if you are a garbage man or a welder or any occupation . Everyone should get what they pay for even if your an attorney ...

Everybody's like oh but a charter captain has so much stress . So what ! Everyone has stress . That's what they're suppose to do is put people on fish and if that's too much stress maybe they should try another line of work ?

The bottom line is just what cadello says .. You got screwed .
That's a dang crime dude . I don't know how I would of handled that situation .

Guides

They are professionals (sometimes)

They should act like professionals.

If it was me, I would have mentioned the guide by name.
There is just no excuse for that. Period.

Guides post here, so it easy for them to come and take up for each other.
This guy is owed some money back at the very least.

Thank you again cadello !

Drew if you spent half the time you do trying to argue with people as you do trying to learn how to fish you would be a heck of a fisherman .

OK!!!

Boy I'll probably be sorry I stepped in the this when I coulda walked around it!!
Yes I do know what it's like to work in the plants and work turnarounds. Did it for 36 years and still doing it full time and guiding part time. Is guiding harder than my full time job? Hell yea! Do I love it? Hell yea!
Don't forget the guides first responsibility is the safety of the people on his vessel. A few months ago, before the weather even got hot, I fished 5 days straight. That took more out of me than any 6 week turn around I have ever worked but, I loved every minute of it. Stress? Yes both jobs but, for different reasons.
And don't forget, and this part has nothing to do with fishing, earning you Capt license from the Coast Guard is not like going to Walmart and buying a fishing license. It's alot of work, or at least it was for my dumb $ss!

And how did this post turn in to a pissing match anyway?

RE

I have 3 guide buddies...2 are in Big Lake. I know what they had to go through to get their Capt's license. It's not a cakewalk.
This isn't about how hard guides work or that they didn't catch fish, that happens.

This is about a guide that took this client out for a few hours and never offered any compensation after what sounds like a disaster.

Sometimes the seller (guide) has to bite the bullet, that's business.

I wasn't there. If his story is straight then he got screwed.
I work for myself and know that I couldn't nor would I ever try to do that to any person.

It's all about principle.

C'mon man

You know what I meant ... And I wasn't trying to say I work harder than a guide . The man got stiffed for 800 bux and someone else made the comment that they have a lot of stress and work a lot of hours . And it seemed to me and apparently cadello that some of y'all were taking up for the guy. I was just saying that everyone works hard and a lot of us work a lot of hours . Not just guides or welders . But that's no excuse for a guide or anyone else to take someone else's money just for that reason ... And besides I'm just an old welder that fish a lot . You shouldn't be worried about what I think about your fishing ability .

@ drew b

im not saying whos right or wrong here but let it go man, let it go, cant you see he is not going to agree with you.

you have expressed your opinion over and over again and made yourself clear about it but for some reason that isnt enough?

you arent going to change his opinion and he isnt going to change yours on this so lets all argree to disagree and stop the direct back and forth

@ choupic man - it takes 2 to tango and right or wrong if you wouldnt continue to egg him on then this wouldnt continue, just you let it go as well. nothing will be gained from continued back and fourth except maybe turning people off from reading this thread.

none of this likely even matters i guess because for two days in a row this thread post never shows up on the forum anymore unless found by search feature despite having new posts so i hope the modderators havent hidden it because of the discord

Guides

The guides chose to work in service oriented industry. At the end of the day, unfortunately, the client is always right, no matter what the outcome. Kinda like working as a waiter when you have to serve the biggest A-hole with a smile. Better be good at reading their minds and coming up with creative solutions for all of there gripes. If you keep posting trips with the terms 'limits' before 8, outstanding fishing for the last couple of months, and the fishing is on fire now, and you cant back it up when a client shows up then get ready for these complaints. Worst excuse to tell a client is to tell them that the fishing was on fire yesterday before they showed up. That gets me everytime.

Keakar

I totally agree with you Kaekar ... Enough is enough . I guess the bottom line is Michael and his buddy's got messed over by a rottin guide . (not all are rottin) . I'm sure a lot of guides work hard and try they're best to please the clients . So I guess the moral of the story would be to make sure to check your guide out before deciding on which one to choose ? But only thing Michael said he had been using this particular guide since he was a kid , and never had any problems until then . And he was so upset about this he said he would never use this guide again . So ... If I'm thinking about getting a guide , what would I do if I hear this ? How would I go about deciding which guide to choose for my son and me ? Being this will be our first time guided fishing trip and I want this to be a pleasurable experience for the both of us . Seriously ..

Guides that don't catch fish

i think the problem people have with guides catching fish is NOT that the guides are catching fish but that the people in the boat would rather the guide be showing and teaching THEM to catch the fish. i really dont think people object to the guide catching anything but it could be as simple as they may be assuming the ciustomers are learning something by watching, some people arent able to pick up on the little things you are doing to catch fish and perhaps its easy to forget how clueless some customers are about how important the little things are to catching or not catching fish.

some charters i have been on the guide was nothing more then a taxi driver and he may as well have not been there for all the teaching he did.

i know how to catch fish but i dont know everything about fishing or areas i am not familiar with and if i charter a trip it is mainly in order to learn a new area. i want the guide to teach me how to fish the area and to learn the places to go or not go, this can be done on the ride out to go fishing if need be and im not looking to gps mark all your spots but give me the heads up on finding fish so if i come back on my own boat i can have some success.

to me its important to get the most out of a charter captain experience to learn the way you need to fish different areas and locations as well as the way to read the water and land features.

in short teach me to fish the area we are in, i want to learn from you and dont just bring me to the fish and think that is all im looking for from you.

Lesson Learned

I would like to start off by saying thanks for the support and the advise that some of you gave. I did not mean for this thread to get out of hand, but I feel that something should have been said. A lesson has been learned about what to expect from others. I will be out in Lake Pelto giving it another shot this weekend in my own boat. Thanks again to everyone and safe fishing.
