Inshore Fishing in The Rigolets / Lake Catherine in Southeast Louisiana
7/10/2012 Rigolets report
Finally had the chance to fish the rigolets train bridge for the first time today! Launched at dockside which is a great facility with great people. Headed to the train bridge with some live shrimp and arrived to great weather but a slack tide.rnrnStarted catching trash fish immediately. After 15 minutes of catching hardheads I decided to see what my carolina rigged tko shrimp would do. Go figure, started putting some trout in the box.
By this time, there were huge storms brewing up and the wind started to howl. rnrnPut a few more specks in the box and saw a wall of black towards the west. Said to hell with this and ran back to the rigolets marina for shelter. We made it just in time before the heavy rain hit us. It rained its ass off along with lightning. Waited it out and it stopped awhile later however the wind was blowing REAL hard.
We decided to go back and try the bridge again and it was tough fishing for the next hour. The wind really killed us. Out of nowhere it just stopped! As soon as it stopped we started putting some real nice trout, drums, and reds in the box before the wind decided to start howling again.rnrnIt was too much and we decided to head back to dockside. The lake was crazy rough and we were taking waves over the bow of Phils 22 foot bay boat.
Made it to dockside safely. I tell ya what, if the weather would have been right, we would have done real real well!
Can't wait to get back there on a good day.
By the way, we caught some spanish mackerel by the bridge today. Is that common?!
