I plan on scouting the area within the next couple weeks. If I cant get out there then, I will do it after teal season. I'll come back to this post and let you guys know what I find.
For some pics and videos of the trip check us out on facebook.

A pretty sweet duck habitat with lots of woodies and teal with the occasional grey. Even after the storm this area will thrive because of a constant fresh water flow. And then opening day will happen and the marsh will be flooded with more humans than ducks. Most of which do not know the effective range of steel shot or how to blow a duck call or sit still etc. etc. Of course this is the easily accessed area of Joyce that buts up against I-55. There are some other good spots in Joyce to hunt but in order to access those areas you need to park your truck in a hostile environment. Hate to be so negative about this place but it used to be an excellent place to hunt before the whole world found out about it.
Push pole my pawpaw was born in 1900 , he used to tell a story about the duck hunters in the marsh . He said the ducks would start out flying across the marsh fairly low and people would start shooting , and the next group of people would start shooting and so on . He said by the time the ducks would get to them they needed binoculars to see them . Point is the marsh hunters didn't know their range on their shotguns and it's been like that for quite some time now . He referred to these hunters as New Orleans hoodlums .
I deer hunt Joyce and put in off 55 and often wonder how do the duck hunters manage . With all the vehicles they have to be sitting in each others lap !
How do y'all set up ? Is it a first come basis ?
There are ponds in the marsh just north of north pass and plenty ducks I've seen in there that nobody ever hunts . Seems they all want to pile up in that one corner to the north .
I know what you mean. Ive hunted areas like that before and I dont enjoy it much. I didnt think it got that crowded out there for some reason, so thats good to know. If I scout it out and decide to hunt the area I'll more then likely find a spot back in the back away from the crowd. Thanks for the info
We hunted there quite a bit last season in the second split. It was full of teal in the am and if you wait till around 1030 the big ducks start flying(not many though). You will need a pirogue and push pole. Our best luck was putting in at the RR tracks and poling to the back to smack the woodies and teal in the morn and big uns mid morning! Good Luck
