One of the Many Rigolets Reds i've caught in canals from the Marina to the Left
Thanks for info Big jim.........As for the Squirrel I'm ones thoses that would come out w/his limit been there done that many times. I've hunted Places where it was 10 acres had 5 people hunting then came out w/like 1-2 i had my limit as for as the Redfish I've had better luck to the east in Rigolets b4 the Trestle&in some Dead end canals not for from Rigolets Marina Have caught few specks there too. Andd some nice flounder up towards Trestle before Lake Borgne on the Left shelly sandy shore line, Guess i need to go w/some1 that know the Lake Any Taker????
Twin spans has keeper drum on southside right now. Dead shrimp on bottom. I tried northside without much luck. Best to move around a bit, sometimes you bump into concentrations.
Not much else on the bridges right now despite the usual hype from local marinas. Been several times the last few weeks. Drum limits, very little else. That includes using live shrimp, which for drum is just a waste since they will hit dead shrimp. Save your money or take the live shrimp east to Lake Borgne rigs which is where you start to catch trout. Everyone else I talked to had similar results. The train bridge in the Rigolets might have trout, just haven't heard anything.

Not Lake P Trout Bayou Blue Area
Thanks....Dr spot, we fished the area in between the Span right@the High Rise but nothing there either, I do believe the Marina make the Big Hype out of a Day catch just to get People there to Spend $$$$$$ now that I believe!!!! I've fished lake few times still waitin on Big Pay off!!!!
Jls, you always post on the guides posts about wanting to take a trip and wanting to learn from someone who knows the lake well...so do it. Fishing isn't free. As sad as it is, it's become a rich man's game. The only way to catch fish consistently in the lake is by working for it and learning where, when, and how to go. You can either do that yourself, or pay a respected guide to bring you. Dr. Spot, you always complain about marinas and guides lying to you and what not, and that's fine, but to say that there are no fish on the bridges right now is stupid (and wrong). We've been catching mixed boxes on the bridges for over a month, and there have been some solid trout catches around the bridges over the past week. Ironically, I've fished the eastern Lake Borgne rigs over the past couple weeks and had very limited luck compared to in the lake around the bridges. I'm not a guide and I don't own a marina, but I catch fish in the lake because I work for it. Jls, the bottom line is that you're not going to learn how to fish the lake by just fishing it 'a few times,' and just because you fished a couple of times and didn't do well doesn't mean that there aren't fish there. There are good days and bad days of course (with anything), but the fish are there for the taking. I suggest paying a good guide to take you out (Kris at Dockside, Dumas, Dudley, etc.) and then take what you learn from them and apply it to your own fishing. Eventually, you'll start to catch fish. Fish catching doesn't happen online.
Hey i mean w/a freind I'll split the Cost But i'm not gona pay some guide $450-$500 to catch 75 fish, bait, gas sowwy aint happen you wana Pay ummmm you pay ummmm Do you know how long they film before actually do catch fish might be hours, days. I'm catchin fish for my freezer Any givin time you can catch fish it all bout LUCK
JLS, its not about paying someone 500 dollars to catch 75 fish, rather its about paying someone 500 dollars to show you exactly where, when, and how to fish that lake so that you don't end up with the crappy trips that you often post about the lake. If you decide that catching is all about luck, then there's no way to sway you.
It's not about someone not being friendly to split the costs of a trip with you. Guides aren't supposed to do that. Fishing and showing people how to fish is their livelihoods, and $400-500 is a more than reasonable price given the amount that you will learn fishing with a solid guide anyway. Hell, if you're a live bait fisherman with a bigger boat, you're spending close to $100 every fishing trip anyway, so that's sacrificing 4 more trips to pay for one on which you'd learn more than you ever have about the lake.
JLS, you whine too much! I can't take it anymore! Your BAD Grammar, whining about not catching fish, whining about not knowing where to go, giving tips that you copy straight from others posts and now you rip the Guides for doing their jobs and charging a fair price to do it? Do you ask yourself why NO ONE has openly taken your offers to split trips with you? I have an answer: it's because they don't want to be trapped on a boat with you while you whine. I will revisit an earlier post. Save some money, get a professional guide, learn some spots, catch some fish! Sorry if I am too rough, but I am done trying to decipher your posts!
Hey Gary I'm not ripping no1 I've fished the Lake few times different places too and have caught fish places that no1 had ever Mention My thing is i can go where they say there Biting And guess what there Not!!! They had 5-6 other in same area w/me they weren't Catching ZIP!!!!So to me its hit miss thing thoses Fish are never gona be in same Place all the Time,So xcuse my Grammar this is not school Learning Site, But thats ok i know who ok on here and who's Not Have good one
I left Rigolets marina at 545 am saturday, out of shrimp so i had cacahoes. Fished lake borgne with not much luck. Around 1030 decided to call the marina, and they had shrimp again. Stopped off grabbed a few, went to the twin spans and caught 2 man limit of drum all keepers, and 3 trout. only stayed aboiut an hour and a half. You should have stayed longer it, lake p saved my trip.
Hey JLS, a guide is good advice, I wouldn't take it too harshly. My ex-wife and my kid's university get most of my money (hope some others here can relate) but I usually squeeze in one guide trip a year. The most important thing is to ask questions and be very observant on any details they do. There are nuances for Hopedale from Frank Moore, the Fishing Magician, and Barry Brechtel (RIP) I've really picked up on and improved my own trips.
And for those wondering, I did get a Lake P guide on a March trip a few years ago (he will remain anonymous). It was a very mediocre trip even though tide and weather was good. He wasn't interested in sharing tips, and basically we threw lures at the Highway 11 bridge drawbridge area for 5 hours for 7 mostly school trout and we we didn't move much. Not a good experience. But that was probably an anomaly, and I will try a different Lake P guide this Fall or next spring when some money is saved.
And, the drum bite continues. One neighbor at Eden Isles this morning was cleaning a 2-man limit of drum. He also had 1 flounder. Another neighbor Sunday had some drum and 1 huge sheephead. Like I said, the typical experience right now seems to be drum, and maybe a few other fish. If others are *consistently* catching a more mixed box, let us know, that's what this site is about. I just reported what I see, and how I've done on my last three trips. And, unless you want to try for trout, market shrimp is good enough at the moment.
JLS - I'm not sure where you got that insulted your intelligence. You complained about the prices of guides, and I gave you sound reasons for their prices.
Dr. Spot - I'll be fishing tomorrow late morning until dark probably. I never post reports on here because it never leads to anything good for me, but I'll post a report tomorrow. The drum have been pretty steady for a while now. Hopefully they hang around for a bit longer.
And JLS, for what it's worth, I'll be fishing tomorrow where 'they' have told you that the fish have been biting.

Fishing is just like hunting, you can turn 4 people loose on 100 acres squirrel hunting and one will come out with limit, 2 people will probably have a couple squirrels and one will probably get skunked or get one. You can't blame it on the Big Pond, it takes a while to learn how to fish this area. Your talking about one of the hardest areas to fish anywhere and just cause you didn't catch you think its not any good. You have to be at the right place at the right time with the right amount of tide speed and the fish have to be there, lots of variables. Ask any serious Big Pond fisherman the key to catching trout regularly and they'll tell you go with someone who knows how to catch them once or twice then go practice what you learned as many times as you can. Just like music or anything else, if you have the talent and the vision to read the water like music you will succeed. Remember 95% of the fish are in 5% of the water and 5% of the fisherman catch 95% of the fish. You have to figure out by experience and skill how to find the 5% of water fish are in and how to make them bite. Good luck!
