we put down in berwick at the levee on the intracoastal, took off due south, looking for atchafalaya delta wma, we ran to the bay and out to the first island and back to the boat ramp in a 16foot boat with a forty hp, ran out of gas in a 12gal tank right at the boat ramp, it is a long boat ride, but it looked like a good place to fish, lots of shallow water around the island though
Just a suggestion. Since you don't know the area, you could take a one hour car/truck ride with the boat to Bayou Dularge and then a 10 minute boat ride from Jugg's landing to Grand Pass. There you could catch bull reds and bull drum on cracked crab or try your luck with the specks and rat reds in either of the lakes that adjoin the pass. For someone who is new to the area, this would be an easy trip with a good chance to catch some nice fish.
VERY LONG RIDE!! Google earth morgan city then look north of grassy lake. That's around where you will be. Then scroll down till you get to the gulf .
Would be easier to fresh water fish or trailer down somewhere and launch in salt wtaer.
