I left there yesterday and it was my first trip so I was nervous like you. It is obvious what sand is compact and what sand isn't, or it gets that way after daylight. If you see ruts in the sand with the tire marks more than 3 or 4 inches deep, try to avoid it. Or if it is just a small spot of un-compacted sand, get a little momentum. I saw a Camry go everywhere on the beach so you will be fine.
I just came back from Elmer's island sunday and the sand is hard where everyone rides at but if you get to close to the edge where there's not tracks you get stuck the sand it is not as compack and is soft I actually got stuck in 4x2 and luckly wild life and fisheries was there to pull me out. As long as u stay on the roads that everyone drives on you'll be fine.
