Unless you know some of the lesser known ,out of the way bait shops .This time of year you had better be in line by 4:30 - 5:00 am to get bait in the fourchon / grand isle area.
All the big marinas / bait shops are going to take care of the guides FIRST! These are the folks that buy 300 shrimp and/ or croakers from them every day.
The guides let the bait shop know the day before what they will need and they get it.
I have been to one of the main bait places on the island and seen tanks full of shrimp at 4:30 am and they tell you they don't have any. Then the owner showed me his guide order for that morning and he was holding over 5000 shrimp for the guides.
I can't blame him ,these are the folks that are dependable buyers that buy large amounts of bait everyday that they can fish.
if you are going to leeville, fourchon, or grand isle please give your bait buisness to leeville.
that poor little town wasnt much to begin with and the few buisness still left are barely keeping from going bankrupt because of that stupid bridge and need to be supported, about all the income they have left coming in is from fishermen and they need our support.
You may want to try one of the places in Leeville, they usually open at 500 AM. Gails, Demere's and Tyds all have live bait.
BUT...YOU DON'T NEED IT! Fish are eating up plastic. Save your money!
