No doubt . We found a nice lil honey hole yesterday evening . We fished the gar rodeo last year and had one about 50 lbs and one over 100 but the jug busted at the boat and the rest were small . It's fun though, we've been eating patties all evening .

This is undoubtedly good clean fun for the young men pictured. You guys are doing everyone a favor by catching as many gar as you can, large and small. What kind of hook do you use, a large treble? What do you use for bait? I've been wanting to catch them on rod and reel.

We use 4/0 and 5/0 trot line hooks . Take two and put them back to back and electric tape them together. Then twist stainless wire in the eyes of both hooks . If your just using a couple fishing poles then I would buy treble hooks because when your baiting 20 or 30 jugs it would get costly buying that many 5/0 stainless treble hooks !

For bait we use whole mullet , the bigger the better . Run the stainless wire up through the mouth of the mullet and out the end of the tail , then slide it down the wire to where the mullets mouth is resting on the curve of the hooks .
