Seeing RED!!!!
Reds win in a landslide..
The story lately is the wind and today was no different. I had Brian Glover and his clients Todd, Ivan, and Keith joining me today. Brian wanted his clients to experience the best of both worlds with catching trout and reds. With the forcast wind to reach the 20 mark, going offshore for trout was out but there has been one little honey hole producing some trout so that was the first stop. I figured if we were lucky the wind would let us fish for trout for a couple hours and then go hunt for reds. Basically that's how it worked. The trout bite was less than anticipated so after a handful of trout hitting the ice it was time to go. Ivan hadn't fished since he was a little kid so I was a little hesitant to hit the ponds because to be successful you have to have a somewhat accurate cast. I decided to pull out bait shrimp and hit two holes. We found plenty of bull croakers and catfish along with a puppy drum. I was tired of the catfish flipper coming out so off to the ponds. Definitely a smart move. It didn't take long for Brian to hook our first red on a gold spoon. About 10 minutes later Ivan hooked up. As soon as I netted the red, Todd hooked up, then Keith, then Brian. Reds were everywhere. Once the smoke cleared I picked the Power Pole up and we continued drifting. We were persistant and just picked at the reds for the remainder of the day. The gold spoon worked best as it was semi-weedless but the purple/chartruese came in a close second. Thanks fellas for a great time on the water and thanks Capt. Marty LaCoste for setting up the trip.
