Inshore Fishing in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
Brutal Winds
Well the winds have been brutal for about a week now and getting worst everyday! I decided to take the Catch Dat One out for a solo trip today. Wasn't heading offshore in the Xpress today for sure!
Actually found some trout in the marsh where they don't belong right now, gotta love the DU!! Got an early start before daylight and had 12 trout in the boat before getting cut off by 2 other boats. Had to wait for them to give up and leave cause they where on top of the fish. As soon as they left I finished my limit and played catch and release for about an hour.
The fish were very picky on what they wanted, I tried a few things but double rigged Coco Pepper is what they wanted. You had to make sure the reel was locked before the bait hit the water. If you waited for the bait to splash down then lock the reel you already missed the bite. They weren't big, had to catch 100 to keep 25 but in these brutal conditions I'll take it!
As far as the 2 other boats, the white boat was kinda a victim of the wind and apologized but the Green Key West, that was totally unprofessional. All it would have taken was a little courteousness I woulda put you right behind me and we could all catch. You parked on the fish right where I was fishing, yea you caught a few before they quit. But as soon as you moved the fish was still there and ready for action. Anyway, you have to learn to be a good sportsman before you can be a good guide. That's why most sportsman hate guides! I will do you a favor and not post the picture.
