Fliesitdies,
U have to learn when to fish them, falling tide runouts, many in the Lake Mechant Area,Satardy fore last Stayed in Lake Decade ,got tired of red fish after limit, then caught bass, culled 35 or so to keep 20 14' to 16',U DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO FISH THE PONDS,SHORE LINE LOST LAKE ,EGALE LAKE ,LIL DUCE JUST A FEW OF THE SPOTS TO TRY. Heck by your duck hole and around Lke Boudreaux is pretty good right now!!! c~~~~~~u~~~n~~the quack, quack season!!!!!
thanks ya'll. and fishduk have heard that the lake boudreaux area is on fire, maybe ill head over that way next week. and man you must really know what ur doing because ive tried bass fishing in lake de cade several time with absolutely no luck what so ever. o well maybe bass fishing ain't my thing, but i like to think that i can hold my own when it comes to redfishing. i guess it will be an adventure going into new territory farther south in mechant and hopefully it turns out well for us. oo yea and DUCK SEASON HURRY UP FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
I've always done good along the northern part of Merchant with spoons and soft plastic...the tide needs to be moving tho
I'll fish the reefs in the lake and move into the bayous where the water is moving.
Other than that, fish the banks of mud lake on the north and west sides with the weedless spoonage.
Normally I hit the specks around there too but this year it is really slack
We had 2 boats (4 guys) catch roughly 15-20 redfish last Friday even & Saturday morning, I had a huge keel leak open up and the only way we could keep fishing was to hot wire extra bilge pumps. This kinda took our mind off of fishing early Saturday.
Dead shrimp did better than spinnerbaits. TRout were hard to find -although I've heard of 5 man limits at Cocodrie.
Good luck
I see u been racking up again on them REDS. I am going to be making my first trip down there this weekend. I noticed that theirs not going to be much of a tide range this weekend. SO where has the hot spot been this summer? I am looking to put my wife on some REDS. She has not caught one in 2 years. She is losing her intrest in fishing. I hoping we have a good weekend. This might be the first and last time this year that I go. My boat is on its last leg and I am not ready to buy another one yet. Hopefuly I will have one by next spring. If yall around this weekend stop by the camp.
Yeah, I fought off the kid/fishing blues 3 times but came thru in the end...
In the fall and winter, I fish all the back, deeper canals just off the grass edges and catch the hawgs...let them all bounce around in windy Decade picking around for them pecker specks! the canals are protected from the wind and hold bigger, better fish.
My keel leak (I'm embarrassed to say) started out a s hairline crack seperation on a 22' fiberglass bay boat due to the rubber v mounted on the trailer was split down the middle but looked fine upon inspection. I was putting the boat on the trailer and hitting bare metal against the keel. On Last Friday night I split it open - But launched Saturday morning without checking damage thoroughly. -
I'll be learning all about epoxy fiberglassing starting this weekend so if you guys would not mind to leave me a few for my next trip.
Has anyone road out to the islands (Last or coon point) to see how bad the oil is or isn't?
Shanon
Fished North and South Mechant for Reds and only managed a few past couple weeks on two trips....although I don't fish with live or bait shrimp. Fish I did catch were on holographic swimbaits and spinner baits... May have been the days I've fished because it was same days that even Mr. Lake struggled. I've never fished Jug lake area ponds but seems like you've done well there and if I were you I'd stick to those fish! Good Luck!
