Had a blast fishing for reds down at Halters Island today. Got a late start and did not begin fishing until 9:00 am. Caught 2 keepers pretty quick and then nothing for the next hour. Moved over to another spot and it was on! Caught 29 more in about an hour and 20 minutes. Unlike my past trips I did not have a problem getting my limit of five fish. As a matter of fact, of the 31 reds I caught, I could have had at least 4 limits today. They were mostly between 16 and 20 inches which is an improvement over past trips where they were mostly 14 to 15 1/2 inches. I also caught 13 croakers, 4 freshwater cats, a hard head, a gafftop, a sheepshead, a black drum and then 9 more fresh water cats on the way back to town. River shrimp was the bait fished on the bottom. I did catch 3 reds with a cork, but they were biting too fast to try to fish two poles, so I stuck to fishing on the bottom. You gotta love days like this one!
