Inshore Fishing in Cocodrie / DuLarge in South Central Louisiana
Last Island - Terrebonne
Just returned from surveying the Last Island chain. I wish I had better news but it looks pretty bad. If serious action isn't taken soon we MAY have 3-5 years left until the Gulf is at Cocodrie.
For those of you familiar with the area you'll recognize the following:
The White House is now in the surf.
The Wine Island tank battery, which was behind the island a month ago is now 800-1000 yards east of it.
The statue at Trinity Bayou is perhaps 30-50 feet from the surf.
At 100-150 yards from the beach we were in 9 feet of water.
Made a 100 mile loop. Put in at the firestation in Houma. Down the Nav to Cocodrie. Looped around the south side of the island at Wine Island and then north through Whiskey Pass to Dularge. Thru Lil Deuce and then Lake Decade. Minors canal took us to the intracoastal and back home.
Coco Marina looks to be pretty well cleaned up. Boudreaux's marina looks like it took about 5 feet of water and the parking lot is covered in mud.
The marsh looks pretty good with the exception of a lot of dying trees lining canals etc. Saltwater intrusion I guess.
I'll post pictures of the island as soon as they're emailed to me.
