wolf

dont listen to these guys, yes they probaly do, i hunted a lease with my father-in-law in east Texas only 25 minutes from the louisiana state line along interstate 10, and we saw them all the time, about 8 foot from nose to tip of tail. I dont doubt they could have gone 20 miles east into louisiana.

wolf

Do not know about now but I killed one in 1983 in Southwest Louisiana. I have killed many coyotes so I do know the difference. Have never seen one after that.

Wolves

Sorry but alaskan and canadian wolves aren't 8 ft. in length, so if you did see them "all the time" in TX the size is a bit dramatic.

wolves

My uncle has a wolf mounted that he shot a while back on the LA and TX border. I think this was about 20 years ago. Also I thought they had introduced some red wolves or something in Louisiana a few years back and they crossed with some coyotes. Could it have possibly been one of those?

Please e-mail me the pictures that you have. I'd like to be proven wrong. But I also know that size is usually over-exaggerated. I take in several deer every year that I'm told weighed over 200 lbs. yet their neck size and rack suggest 150. Or a 35 to 40 lb. bobcat that only weighs 18 lbs. when I weigh it.

Wolves in LA

Red wolves used to be in LA up into the 1960s. There were a few articles and one recently in a magazine, can't remember which, about how wolves have actually cross-bred with coyotes in the south. I think I have seen one and I know my father saw one which was probably a full blow wolf because he was a kid at the time and he is 62 now. His father was a world renowned taxidermist and he told my father it was a wolf. At this point in time I would think it rather rare to find a wolf that had not been cross-bred with coyote. Typically coyotes average between 30 and 40lbs. The Red Wolf is typically between 60 and 90lbs. Coyotes up north average a little bigger but the record is only 74lbs. Red wolves were recorded to still be living in SW LA up in the 1960's with them considered to be instinct in the wild by 1980. Soo, if you see any coyotes in the 70-80lb range that are the size of your lab, it is probably one of the hybrids that positively still exist in LA.

Wolf sighting

I can't say for sure, but I think I may have seen one too about 2 years ago in Vermilion Parish. I was driving and it crossed the highway a short distance ahead of me. It was around 7 or 8 am so there was enough light to see easily. I first thought it was a very tall coyote. Not real heavy looking, but noticeably taller and longer than a normal 'yote. After it crossed the road it looked back toward me and I noticed something about it's face. I wasn't driving fast and it was maybe 50 or 60 yards away. I've seen lots of coyotes and they have what I'd describe as somewhat of a fox like appearance. This animal looked more like a German shepherd in the face. Seemed like it had a wider muzzle than a normal coyote. I don't think it was a coy-dog, because they often have different colored fur, like common dogs. Anyway, who knows? Maybe a wolf-coyote hybrid?

Yep--WOLVES in NORTH LOUISIANA

They on first sight look more like deer than a coyote! What gives them away is a straight, bushy tail along with the fur mane around their neck and the height of another 6 inches of their legs! Behavior alone will be enough to judge them wolves! If you see the three black ones that I and neighbors saw a few years back and hear one howl that big lone lonesome howl there will be no doubt for you alone! Two more different ones were seen in our area by me! A huge beefy red and a younger Eskimo looking one with him, both hunting franticly after a rabbit! Behavior and appearance is not of a dog or coyote at all! They are here!

True ignorance

Pretty funny how ignorant some people can be, chiming in with stupid comments 'drink too much' & 'did yah see a panther'! Do us all a favor and save your stupid comments for some who cares and do your research before you make yourself sound like an idiot!
