I know a few magic lures to use there ! If interested email me barrett.scoper@yahoo.com. I have caught some giants there that stay in 2 different spots. There is a certain Jig that they slam and certain Lizard !!!!!!!! But if i was to rate the lake on a scale of 1-10 it is a 6. try Millers if you want to catch wall hanger toads ...
to me chicot is the best trophy lake in central louisiana, and at the same time it is the most aggravating lake in the state to fish. my dad caught an 11 even, 9 lbs 4oz, three 8 somethings, and several in the 5 to 7 pound range last spring! he had several numbers trips too, catching twenty to thirty bass in a trip. he literally goes 100 times a year. i got to make a few trips last year and caught a few in the 6 and 7 pound range. here is the thing though. there were many, many, goose egg days in between the good trips. that is the nature of Chicot lake. you WILL have infinitely more bad days than good there, but one good trip there will rival any good day on any lake in the country as far as quality goes. i mean we have caught 20 in a day with our best five being 30 pounds or more. to maximize our chances we try to only fish during the week. you see chioct gets a ton of pressure and the fish lock up and quit eating when the boat traffic gets heavy and the lures start flying. during the week they settle down and turn on big time every so often. 90% of the decent outings i have had there in my life were all during the week.
would you like to know anything else? maybe follow me to my fishing hole too ?
