wax lake

went hunt the wax yesterday, quite a few birds but even more idiots!!! ive come to the conclusion that its not the bird numbers that r down, its the idiot numbers that r up making the wax look like its not producing. NOTE TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN...it is not cool to run ur high dollar duck boat with mud motor the entire time from sunrise till u run out of gas, that is not duck hunting or scouting, thats scaring all the birds. oh and thank you who ever u r for parking ur boat 50 yards from my decoy spread at 6:30 and jumpnig in your pirouge to hunt, all the ducks really dove right in to the big silver boat with 90 yamaha, anyone else see some complete fools out there yesterday?

yep

I hunted the basin yesterday with my son. I went out Friday and brushed up a spot that I hunted the entire first split. Well We arrive Saturday morning to hunt and there is a group of jerks in the brush I brushed up for us. I know this is state land and I always have a back up spot for the idiots that call there selves hunters, but a little respect for your fellow hunters would go along ways. I would never dream of doing this to someone....Maybe next time I plan on hunting a spot and someone shows no respect I think I'm gona do myself and them a favor. Anchor out with no camo just out from there decoys and drink coffee. Repay the favor.

WMA Hunting

ducks337, sounds like you are very angry and maybe you have the right to be, but just remember, on a WMA nothing holds your spot. We have the same problems just east of you guys. Would hate to see you or anyone else get in trouble or worse, hurt. You seem like a much better sportsman than they are. Also, if you get there after them and cause a fuss over this and you are reported, you will be the one to lose with the wlf.

Good luck and good hunting.

Yo Ducks337

Some might say thats not the way to handle it, however, they may be wrong. Our children have to grow up in this world, and the more we allow jerks to take over, the less we give our children. Sometimes it is just time to stand up for whats right. Period.

Pintail Pass

You must of been in Pintail Pass.... Although I was west of there and had an idiot over there too. Last year we had a guy do the same thing you described but when he got finised with his poul-do hunt he got in his boat and drifted 75 yards behind us and talked on the phone while wearing his orange life jacket! The world is full of them!!

Atchafalaya Delta

I know exactly what you mean, I have had people set up next to me at about 25 yards from my spread, and as I would call the birds they would shoot, luckily I work a 14&14 schedule and can hunt during the week when the idiots aren't there. I would like for enough peolpe to contact the WLF and suggest they classify the surface drive motors the same aa a airboat which is not allowed on the management area. If enough of the idiots had to put a lil effort into their hunt I think we could rid the real sportsman of most if not all of the peolpe who have no respect for their fellow hunters. Your thoughts.

if im th one thats gunna get in trouble doesnt mean im gunna be the one to learn my lesson. haha but anyways...the bioloigist said next year there will be a walk in or pirouge only island to disable mud motors...as an experiment for further evaluation....ban them all!!! or atleast check a persons IQ before there sold a mud motor

i dont know

Well first and foremost I have to agree 100% with all the jack legs running around WMA's with cranio-rectal syndrome. Trust me I feel your frustration. But banning surface drives from them would also ruin my hunting, as I own one myself. But I usually hunt with my head on my shoulders and not up my backside and know how to be respectful of those around me. I am not sure what the answer is to solving the problems of disrespectful idiots we have to share our hunting sites with. Just my 2 cents

I'm with chocohead

It isn't all the people that own these mud motors that are idiots. We wouldn't be right to ban all the mud motors from the area. People just have to learn how to use them. You cannot run around the area while people is hunting, that is the people that needs to get ticketed. Must southern know how to hunt. But some is just idiots. They're the people that have never been in a boat and say the need to get one of the mud motors. I have a lot of friends that own them, we have respect for others out there hunting. If look at it as if I was the one that was in the blind, would I want a idiot out there running around scaring my birds. NO. So you dummies that is out there doing it, sell your boat because you don't know what a boat is for and how it is used.

If they banned mud motors it wouldn't make a difference because mud motors are just as good as outboards out there. That sand bottom limits ANY motor but banning them may cause a decrease in hunters out there which is what we need.

Logic

A gun does not kill a person.....A person kills a person.... A mud motor does not make a stupid person mess up your hunt, its just a stupid person! If ones with mud motors would just go build a blind and hunt it without riding all over to see the birds fly it would be better. As far as setting up on top of someone, well they can do that with an outboard and a pirouge. To ban a mud motor is not gonna solve the problem. It would keep idiots from running all the birds out but you still have idiots... The joys of public land hunting!! They are also proposing to only allow hunting on Saturday and Sunday and then Tuesday and Thursday! Tell me that wont screw things up for the one who shift works and the ones that have camps down there!

too many hunters

In my opinion the hard reality is that although the Wax Delta is huge, there are just too many hunters for a limited amount of area. There is consistently too much hunting pressure too often, that is why the birds just keep moving farther out into the Bay. And when you throw in uncourteous people, huge crowds, and people that are just plain dumb it isn't working.

I really don't think banning mud motors is going to solve the problem. Its a people problem, not a mudmotor problem. You have the sameproblems with guys hunting outside in the Bay. Guys pulling up too close to each other, cutting each other's blinds down. stealing blind material, and the list goes on and on. It is a competetive free for all.

Its not the same place as it was five and ten years ago. Unfortunately, we may all have to adapt to something the wildlife and fisheries comes up with such as a lottery hunt. They might need to estimate the number of hunters per acre that are needed to keep birds moving. Or limiting hunting on certain days only. I don't know. I made 4 hunts down there this year and had someone pull in on my spread 10 minutes before daylight every time. It is almost too frustrating. Too far and too much work for that idiocy. I think I prefer hunting in flooded timber and shooting my 3 woodies and being done. I'll take empty parking lots and not having to compete for a spot any day.

If someone was in my blind that i had just brushed I would simply debrush it. Screw all the idiots that come and set up in your spot. There's nothing worse than working birds then having them shot at by some yahoo 50 yds away.

THEY DIDN'T EVEN FIRE A SHOT.AFTER THEY LEFT I SET UP AND KILLED 6 TEAL BEFORE NOON.THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK I WAS WRONG LET ME HERE IT.AND VISEVERSA FOR THOSE WHO THINK I WAS RIGHT.THIS OUGHT TO BE GOOD.

hunting public land..

If you are going to build a blind on public land...and take the time to bring in enough brush to build a blind big enough to cover a boat. then expect that no one will hunt it when there is only one area on the whole wax delta where the birds are consistently being shot...you are an idiot.
Ethically I think it is wrong to pull up into someone else's blind that they built and hunt...especially if the brush is fresh and it's obvious that someone intends on hunting it the next day...everyone should bring in their own brush to hunt...but with so few birds around this season, everyone is on top of each other trying to have a good hunt.
years when there are a bunch of birds...the problem is not bad.
the simple solution is to not build a big boat blind, or hunt with a pop-up blind..and be mobile.
granted-someone else may then build a blind in a spot that you have scouted out...and you would then be the one pulling in on "their" supposedly staked out spot...
according to the regulations-you can not build blinds with the intention of staking out a spot...that is the way it is...get there earlier...hunt in the afternoon, or become more mobile...other than that-you really have no right to complain..they have just as much a right to hunt there as you do...even if you brought in all the brush and made it easy for them....JMHO..

If it was me I would have asked them to move their boat at least 150 yards from my spread. Did you try that?

There are at least about 4 or 5 threads a year about foolishness going on at Wax Lake. I am not anxious to go try the place.

Ducks 337, how'd ya'll do despite the silver bullet?

blinds on public land

I don't see why you guys think that you have the rights to a public hunting spot, simply because you went in there the day before and "brushed up a spot". I mean, are you guys actually saying that if I get into an area hours before you, and decide to hunt a certain point or marsh island that is good for the wind direction, and it happens to have some makeshift brush blind already there, I should say "o well, guess I need to go find a different, probably worse spot to hunt this morning." It seems to me, and maybe this is a stretch, that when you guys brush up your blind the day before, its' just a way for you guys to not have to wake up until 4 am and not get to your blind until 4:30- 5. Sorry but that wouldn't fly in any NWR that I've ever hunted. If someone has an argument that effectively counters any of the points I just made, I'd love to hear it.

brushing up blinds...

I have got to a blind that I have built and hunted the day before and intended to hunt the next day, only to find someone in it...I pulled up to the blind and informed them that they have every right to hunt that particular spot-as this is public land and I can not reserve a spot by the brush that I put out...but it is my brush and I am now removing it to move to another spot and hunt...you are perfectly entitled to stay here though...but you better go cut your own brush....

permanent blinds on wax...

"Bill Collector wrote,(but post has been deleted....)
Stray into my area, and throw up ya blind kit and i'll educate ya real quick if ya not being courtious to my hunting area padna... i didnt work all season on ma spot for some weekend warrior to just come in for a day and blow it all up for you..You need to be a lil more courtious to the guys who work hard season after season on there areas... be that as it may that the areas are public...The area we hunt, we frequent year after year..and you are not a regular, dont expect to be treated as such...comprende ...spin that... And if ya dont like it... Go hunt on a reserve...Or A refuge Or Buy you a Lease... You are not even about to intimidate me....Thats exactly whats wrong with this world..attitudes like that... No Darn Courtesy...The very idea, pulling up in front someones blind spot and hunting in front of them...Thats about as bad as what happened to the guy in this original thread..parking their boat on top of the guys decoys... Pittiful..No Respect..."

And this right here is the problem...
just because you have hunted there in that one spot year after year does not give you the right to lay claim to it.
And I beg to differ with you..if YOU don't like it-you go pay for a lease and then you can legitimately keep people outta your blinds with the law on your side...because I know that the law is on mine...there is a reason that Wildlife and fisheries put the no permanent blind language in the regulations.
I say that you have no right to claim a spot as "yours" on public land...
Now as far as someone pulling up 150-300 yards down wind of someone...that is wrong and extremely unethical...no need to do it...I don't care where it's at...

Indaswanp I agree with you. You know it's funny I quit hunting the Wax not because of the weekend warriors and yahoos but because of the regulars who think they own the place. And if you read the posting about wax, ALL of THEM, you wouldn't bother going because of ALL the JERKS.

Birds

Here's my argument...everyones saying no birds at the wax...there must be a horseshoe in my blind cuz I've made four hunts and limited out three people everytime...so park y'all darn boats in my spread, and run ur mud motors all morning long, skybust the hell out of me, oh a scream just a lol louder at those trashy old dogs, I'll still shoot all the birds u guys wish y'all could. I've hunted the WAX for 11 straight years and trust mr the bird numbers are not down...idiots r up

Yeah you right

This is for House of Pain, I would have and have done pretty much the same thing, and if the other people who claim that the locals think we own it, WRONG, I have many a time went out in the morn to hunt and someone was in a spot I was planning on hunting and because they were their first I moved on well away from them only to have the same people come set up on me and show no respect the very next day. So my thinking on this subject is when some one comes and sets up on top of me from now on I can Guarantee they will not KILL A BIRD since I have plenty of time to hunt during the week. If you want respect it is time to start showing some respect. NUFF SAID!!!!!

Its simple...

Its public land, owned by taxpayers, you have a right to hunt anywhere, and you have an OBLIGATION to respect other hunters. There is no such thing as "your" spot on taxpayer property, however, it is rude as hell if you are set up already and someone pulls upon you.

I dont hunt down there, but I dont understand this......Why dont people just spread out?

I know its the total opposite for alot of you but it works for me sometimes. Most of the time i have to use my gator tail to go get my ducks soo please dont be mad at me!I'll be out there next week and if you see me just riding around that means im looking for the SOB that steals all my brush every time i build a blind!
