Zink and Champ "DOG TIRED"
Yeah let a cold front or two come in and then go back and i think you will love it. Its just cool down there cause you get such a variety. Where i normally hunt its pretty much stricly greys. down there u just never know and that makes it fun. Once those big ducks move in you will have a blast. I'll prolly go back in a few weeks
Those pintail get stained from the river water. That should look cool for a mount! I really wasnt disapointed by not getting one this early. They are still molting some and the sprig is short .... Thats just for trophy purposes. I dont eat the feathers anyway. Been a while since I bagged a true trophy pintail.
Our old lease we used to have I took them all the time. Took that for granted, put a nice one in freezer and lost it in a power outage. You couldnt throw a pintail at me the past couple of years..... But its on now!
Just to watch for the shards of splintering cane. Some submerged around the bases of stands of cane. Splinters and goes into paws. Infection sets up quick but not life threatning. We just double checked there paws and made sure. They cant work without good feet! We always look at the paws after hunts but sometimes we forget. This is a new area with different plants and stuff.... You never know!
Yeah the pintail are not as pretty right now. I shot one opening morning and he was really small, no sprig and very pale. I actually have never shot one other than in Venice, where i hunt they are pretty uncommon. I'd like a pretty one for the wall as well.Last year i got the one i wanted and he was swimmin in a circle and as i got close was trying to grab him and the sucker go up and flew away. couldn believe it. Oh well gives me me something to look forward too..
That ain't bad man, i dropped ya an email and we didn't do any better, i talked to quite a few people and most did far worse so u made out pretty good. It was pretty slow but like you said the storm and the weather got the best of us... Glad to see u guys did ok...
