We hunt on 237 acres, and have been having a dog problem for the last 4 years. We talked to a lady that lives by our lease about keeping her dogs chained up or fenced in a pen, but that never happened. It is not just her dogs. We have dogs all over the place. Took 2 of them out last year. We spend to much money in mississippi to have dogs ....ing up our lease. If they are not house dogs TAKE EM OUT.
I was told this weekend I could go to the feedstore and buy Golden Malrin Fly Bait and mix it with ground meat and make balls and drop them in the woods and if a dog or coyote eats the raw meat you will find them not 10 steps from where you dropped the meatball. Going to give it a try to take care of the yotes...................
While squirel hunting once with only a .22 ,, i ran across a pack of aboout a dozen of the same as your pic. it scared me ,, put my back to a tree ,, started shooting at the closest ones ,, i took out 3 ,, the rest scrammed... several ways come to mind about how to rid an area of strays ,, 1) 2"x2" squares of sponge soaked in pork fat then cooled and tooth picked to a smaller size,, dropped along trails/logging roads ,, they pick it up eat it and cannot digest it,, get sick and die,(somebody told me of this for yotes. kinda inhumane i believe it works, 2) collect the garbage (scrap food) from your friends & neighbors ,, dump in middle of lease ,, sit back with guns and get ready to start shooting ,, also can put nutria traps in and around the area if you have to leave. just some ideas.
Just a little piece of advice. I sit on the Louisiana Dept. of Agriculture Advisory Commission on Pesticides. If you bait any animal with a pesticide other than what it is labeled for it is ILLEGAL! Just last month we had a case where the landowner turned in the hunting club president for baiting animals (Coyotes and Raccoons). He was fined $5,000 for using a pesticide inconsistant with the label. The guy also had charges to answer to with LDWF. I wouldn't advise doing it. Furthermore, I can't believe yall were crazy enough to post those comments on here. I know these dogs are a problem , but, pesticides are NOT the answer.
if they had collars, i'd get the animal shelter to trap them, the owners want em back they will have to pay, BUT if no collars there considered outlaw qudrapeds in louisiana ,, on private property it is legal to hunt them dowm year round. , just a note on coyotes and coydogs. Coyotes are opportunistic, versatile carnivores with a 90% mammalian diet, depending on the season. They primarily eat small mammals, such as voles, prairie dogs, eastern cottontails, ground squirrels, and mice, though they will eat birds, snakes, lizards, deer, javelina, and livestock, as well as large insects and other large invertebrates. Any species of birds that nests on the ground are targeted by coyotes.. ALSO,Wild coydogs and dogotes can cause problems for humans, as they allegedly have the infamous cunning of coyotes but lack their natural fear of humans.
the above came from wikpedia info. becareful , any pictures i would get like this would definatley PPP ME OFF ! this p's me off and it's not even mine.
I was just reading where dogs were causing problems all over the country. One guy is sueing the dogs' owners because even though it is not illegal for them to retrieve their dogs on his own property, ain't that screwd up?, when it becomes a regular problem they can be disturbing the peace. Also, if you are in fear of your life or your child's life you have the right to protect yourself! Bang! Dogs can't talk, especially dead ones! To make one thing perfectly clear, there is a BIG difference between feral dogs and people's pets. A feral dog or dogs are dangerous and can do serious damage to a deer herd and should be controlled just like coyotes.
Went with my kids to hunter's safety at LDWF last year and the instrucotr said the number one deer predator (aside from humans of course) is the wild dog. Not coyotes, not cougars, not bears - wild dogs. A coyote would most likely shy away from a fight with a full grown white tail but not a pack of wild dogs.
dubya-1 is wrong! There is a difference between wild dogs and coyotes. Dogs do no fear humans that makes them more dangerous. Your sent will deter a coyote, but not a feral dog especially a pack. I just hope if they are wild "feral" that the youngsters in your lease that are just starting to hunt alone don't come across the pack while going in or coming out of the woods.Get rid of them legal or not!!!
What's that supposed to mean? Look, I just tried to make everyone aware of what can happen if you are STUPID enough to use poison on animals. The LDWF (who protect animals), and the Ag and Forestry Dept. (who regulate the use of pestcides)take this seriously. I am not telling anyone what to do. I'm just letting anyone know that if you are STUPID enough to poison animals then be STUPID enough to pay the price if caught. I think true sportmen would find another way.
I do know one thing, it aint gunna be me or my family, they gotta go.

Watch out what you do with poison. A co-worker of my wife's told us about her father-in-law getting a fine in the tens of thousand of dollars and possible jail time. They quarantined his lease and the other members were out their hunting season because of this.
Take them out however you want, but don't advertise here, you could incriminate yourself.

Did someone on this site actually say call the Government to come and take of your problem. Man up take care of your own problem. Trap em, shoot em or whatever you decided to do yourself.
Sponges and chicken blood go get some sponges at the dollar store the thick ones. Cut them up in inch by inch cubes, soak in blood. When sponges are saturated place on string at elevations above the ground that will keep most of the other critters out of them. Don't have to worry about deer, turkey, or game animals as they are not going to eat these things as they or herbivores (plant eaters).
Problem solved and you didn't have call out to the Government for help and assistance. Amazing we can do things for ourselves. Wow, spread the word we can do it, I think I can, I think I can.
Please don't poison them as everything that feeds on them will die as well.
If they are not pets and it doesn't look like they are, I would bait them and shoot them IN THE HEAD
Why anyone would suggest to gut shoot anything I don't understand and don't believe is a sportsman of any credit or integrity.
if you need help shooting them I have time and guns..
Are you really afraid of a few mutts, with all the coyotes, bobcats and foxes that know how to hunt and you think a couple of domestic dogs are gonna do you deer herd harm. however they are very aggravating when you're trying to hunt. Think about this, have you ever seen a domestic dog that has lived in the woods for an extended period of time to looked fat and happy....NO, they always looked like they're about to fall over and die, because they are not predators and cannot make it in the wild.
we are all aware of what will happen if you were to get caugh but like you said we must be STUPID to write it on here, especially when people like you read this. have you ever put gas or poison on an 'ant nest' are or other things.when you do that, that means apparenly you dont want ANTS in your yard so whats the difference????
I hope my post helped you in your decision as I meant it to be informative to all as to the fact it is illegal to use a pesticide for killing dogs when it is not labeled for that purpose. Most people wouldn't know that you can be fined from that aspect. I didn't want to stir up people who don't care about laws and do what the hell they want and don't care about the consequences. I sit on this commission to help protect people's families, animals, and the environment from people who use pesticides unsafe. If we don't, the "tree huggers" will be here trying to BAN the very pesticides we use to protect our families. As a mosquito control director, I do take this seriously as I spray pesticides in neighborhoods around families. When someone uses pestcides stupidly, it hurts us all that it is 1 more black mark in the eyes of the "tree huggers" and right now they seem to have more pull than we do.
As for as Cooner, I've forgotten more about killing pests than you will ever know....don't even go there. However, I follow the label and use the pesticide as it was intented. I can't tell everyone how to handle the dogs. I think Huckleberry has a good idea from the many posts how to handle the problem. I don't like to see anyone get into trouble. And remember an old wise saying "Silence is Golden".
ok skeeterkiller i understand what your saying. for instance, although it is just as illegal to shoot them to. on your land or not. we got these people now days that dont even want you to hunt because its cruel but your supposed to go pay big money to put the dog to sleep or you can do it yourself even though it is illegal.. so how about telling all of us the the right way to do it
Stay away from poison or chemical warfare, you'll lose your bobcats, foxes, owls, hawks, etc which most hunters enjoy as much as deer sightings. These dogs will desimate your deer herd worst of all during the fawning season. They'll also run, kill and eat everything that moves because they are simply starving. If you value the wildlife in your area, you should address the problem immediately. Make a work weekend, as soon as possible, with a couple of club members and bring the long guns. It's the most humane way to remove them and save what's left of your deer herd. You should find them near a garbage dump, land fill or abandon camp/house. The female won't drift too far from her litter. Keep this discrete since you really don't want to offend anyone, ANYONE! Good luck...
Do the dogs belong to someone? Or just strays that have gone Feral? If they aren't someone's pets, take em out. If they are someone's pets, live catch and call animal control.
