Redfish Rumble II
The Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club (BCKFC) held its second annual Redfish Rumble tournament on Saturday. Nearly 40 yakers fished the tourney boundaries which were anywhere in Plaquemines Parish. Only artificial lures were allowed and the winners were based on a five-fish stringer of redfish less than 27".
Proving once again that kayaks can bring home fish, many five-fish stringers were entered with the top stringer nearing 30 pounds. There was a tie for 2nd so the 2nd/3rd place prize money was combined and split.

Not too bad.
It was hot, but not unbearable. The weigh-in started at noon so everyone was off the water by then. There was some cloud cover and a breeze earlier that helped out with the heat.
What really was hot was the fishing! In addition to the limits of under 27", many guys did battle with a bunch of large reds. That kind of cools you off when they're toting you all around.

This was a nice vent. The vast majority of the kayakers caught 5 fish limits, but a few fish went slightly over the 27" max, and thus were not included in the weight. If you fish out of a paddlecraft, this is a great club to be in, as they have tournaments all over the state, for trout, reds and flounder.
