I have an 8 year old I want to bring and I would rather him not stick his hand out and grab them. Thats why I want a gig or has anyone used those spring loaded grabbers they sell at Academy? They don't have frog gigs there. If he gigs them should I put them on ice till I clean them? Thanks guys.
Get a Q-Beam Light, (it uses a 12 volt battery)
and a pair of these babies! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37124____SearchResults
No the nets we use do not get caught up in limbs. It's a long net on a long pole you set it on top of the frog, and it jumps in the net and can't get out. We usuall get atleast 5-10 in the net bfore we have to emptyn it into the ice chest. But you get what ever feels comfortable to you. I'm just letting you know what's easier for us when we go. We've not gotten a net caught up in limbs.
The best thing is start the little off right by letting him catch them with his hands, that is the most fun for them. I started my son off at 6 catching with his hands. Remember the only reason why you're out there is to show the littles how to do things. I hold my sons lifevest on the back so he can reach down and catch them with his hands. Don't use the Q-beam it takes away one hand. Send me an e-mail and I can send you the procedures on how to build your own headlight. I have built 6. Will cost about $30 to build and it is a hardhat that attaches to a 12 volt battery. Awesome light.
Academy has em but why don't ya'll just catch em by hand. It's a whole lot easier plus your frogs will stay alive till your ready to clean em.
