For a while I thought it was just me who couldn't catch a fish. I went out earlier in the week on Tuesday and caught one or two perch. Decided to try my luck on Saturday for a good part of the day at the lake and at the camp. Caught a catfish here and there and a few more in the evening. The water was dirty in alot of places. Nothing to write home about. Better luck next time I guess.
I went Saturday morning and fished from the crack of dawn til about 12:30 and left with 5 huge bream that I caught on black and Chartreuse jig while fishing for sacalait. I put in at Bayou Corne and fished that canal system. The water was nice until about 10 oclock then got dirty from so much boat traffic. I talked to a lot of other folks and most had nothing and only one boat had 2 sacalait.

Lake Verret
Fished it last weekend and the weekend before and nothing myself. Ended up with about 10 fish total two trips. When I here reports on TV talking about Lake Verret heating up I'd sure like to know where because I'd have to see it to believe it.
They say that every year because every tournament that is won on that side is claimed to be won in Verrett/Cracker Head area.. when it really wasnt...
guys the fish kill was pretty bad.. I dont know why some people insist on fishing this area when the fish are biting all over the state?!?! maybe its all they know? or its close to home? idk.. I have a camp on Belle River and we have been driving all over the state learning new areas because of the fish kill... and we have been mauling the bass everywhere!!!!!
I'm with you on a fish kill.Last year, fishing was great for bream-goggle eye-sac-a-lait the Verret system. Went to the bayou grosbec area a couple of weeks ago.Got three bites all day long fishing hard. Had nice water in some areas. Last week we went south into the Palourde/grassy lake.Saw alot of boats no body catching- We managed only a few cats a couple of small bream and 2-undersized bass.Again we found some nice water where there should have been fish.
It took 3-years for Verret to come back after Katrina. I think Verret took a harder hit from Gustav. The debris on the bottom is incredible. I think in a few years it will be awesome again. Until then , I'll go with no expectations and enjoy the area. There are few places with nicer scenery
among the cypress and tupelo swamps.
I'll keep going back!!!I hate being landlocked in some lake. Where else has more to offer? You have the Spillway on one side-Verret -Belle River on the other.
We have become spoiled by our awesome bounty. Go on some sites in the middle of the Country and read the posts of those who catch just 2-fish a day. They are in paradise!!!
havent fished verret but pretty sure the spawn is over for the most part for bass and sacalait for the most part. Caught lots of sacalait january and February in the cheramie/sherman area by grassy lake but slowed down a good bit after the February full moon. Seems in that area that the fish that did survive the hurricane all spawned early this year. Seems the hurricane maybe took more of a toll in the verret area than the amelia area
just my imput from what I have seen. The area that is suprising good this year is bayou Black After rita almost complete fish kill for the most part and the fish that did live seemed to be deep in the marsh ponds. After gustav and Ike fishing has been good in the area
you're not the only one with no fish from lake verrett or grassy lake, been a hard spot to fish since katrina came through. just too nice of a day not to be on the water, so no complaints here. if all else fails, grab a bite to eat at Gros Place on 4-mile bayou
