I have that problem everytime I try and buy a gun. I have top secret clearance with the Dept of Defense. And access to nuclear power plants. That flags me everytime i try and buy a gun. Even law enforcement has problems buying. It dont seem right, but it is what it is. I am going to get my concealed weapons permit before that right is taken away from us. That will fix all the delays.
you can find out the info on obtaining a permit here.

You may be in the case of "mistaken identity group". In other words, the ATF is getting your info from the FFL calling in. Things like name, DOB, etc.,etc.,etc.
If you have the same name or close to the same name as someone that has a record, then you go to delay in an attempt by the ATF to clarify who's who. The NCIC check is one of the same checks used by all law enforcement agencies abroad to look for criminals. Lots of times we would get "hits" from people with qctive warrants from all over the country, only to bring them in and find out that someones else did the crime.
It sucks, but the Dem's got the Brady bill passed a few years ago and we have to put up with it. I would write the ATF and see what their hold up is, and maybe get sometype of response from them, but as with all agencies, GOOD LUCK!
...man think ???...would you waste time w/ a dude w/ baggy pants, ring in his nose...pull'n on his crotch, dancing and shuffling in front the counter...who wants to buy a "9" to go duck hunting and buying his 10th gun after the others mysteriously disappeared in one year ???...just hope we are sterotyped by a good dealer that don't place profits first and works w/ the FBI...only thing that gripes me are the secondary charges...but they got to go thru the motions and a flip azz attitude or numerous traffic tickets reflects how many have respect for any law... combined w/ a slow credit report and thrist for money but no brains or demeanor to earn it ...it's not just one thing...you got to add-up the numbers with all the small circumstances...(glad I got that off my chest)...cheers
I owned my own gun shop for 12 years.. I closed it down in 2002.. At that time the FBI NICS was doing all of the back ground checks.. If you last name, SS#, DOB, is close to someone that had a run-in with the law, they will take their time to make sure that you are the right person... I had one guy from Texas that won a gun in a sporting clay shoot.. He got delayed, then 2 days later got denied.. He was pissed at everybody that ran the shoot.. Saying the he had never done anything in his life that would cause him to get delayed.. I told him that they check all the way back to the age of 10.. His face changed,, come to find out, when he was 18 he got caught with 20# of pot.. THERE'S YOUR SIGN.. He had plead it down to a lessor charge, but it was still in the books.. The guys that ran the shoot gave him the money that the gun cost and he was happy then.. I did hear that the ATF gave him a visit,,, never heard anything else....
The part I dont understand is....I have been tru the FBI checks. The Physcological exam. And had my life picked apart to get my clearances. They still today do a check every 6 months from what I understand. So if my record is that clean...why do I have to wait when i go to buy a gun.seems to me with all I have done already...it should go through without a hitch. But i have to wait most of the time. The only time i didnt is when I bought my 17 caliber. They cleared me then. Its a mystery to me.... Some guy off the street can go in and walk out with his gun. And I have all these clearances and dont get the same convenience the guy off the street has. It PISSES me off sometimes.
Your answer may be in your own statement. If I was an investigator and see a guy with all the clearance in the world, working at the nuclear plant, I may want to see if he is having any "issues" before turning him loose with a new gun. They may want to see if this is your first gun or the 22nd. If it is your first gun purchase, is he planning something? Do we know what his plans are? Does he have thoughts of harm to others?
I know this sounds crazy, but think about the guy behind the computer on the phone that has never met you. Do you want to be the investigator that approves a sale and leads to a crime, especially at a secure place!
Just a thought!
i have a friend that is a BRPD officer.at one point he was assigned to an ATF multijurisdictional task force.when i ran into a similar problem a few years ago i asked him the same question.he asked me if i knew of any relatives that had the same or similar name as mine.i have two cousin's with the same name.one is a convicted felon.my friend told me that the computer automatically flagged my purchase because of this and sent it to be investigated by the local ATF office.
What it is, is when they call in they tell them your name when the list pops of the name with everyone as the same name as you they have to look at them the first thing that happens when you go to jail they run a background check so if you have had a lot of background checks you usually have to wait until they can research it deeper that is the main reason why
Had the same problem as you, except I would always be denied. Got FFl and found a guy with the same name, date of birth, and physical description was serving time for felony charges....That don't happen everyday!!! If you get one of these 3 items you'll never have this problem again....NCIS ID PIN# is obtained by submitting your fingerprints and personal info to NCIS,they in turn provide you with a PIN# to use at the purchase of your firearms that lets them know its you and not the other person....hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!
The CC Permit does not do you any good as far as a background check. It actually slows you down. When they first were issued they did waive the background check but then started doing it again. Now that just adds to the time that it takes to get approved. I have had one for 10 years now and never had a problem untill I had the permit. Now it takes anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hours to purchase a firearm. Just go and buy one that is slightly used!!!! NO BODY WATCHES THAT!!!!!!!!! That away when they come to get your guns they will only get the ones they know about!!!!
SS
If you have lived in Louisiana for the past 10 years and you have had ZERO violent reports on paper and no restraining orders all it takes is a short class, prove you can shoot, and pay a hundred bucks for the background check and you can usually get a permit.
if you have not lived in LA for 15 years it will be 150 bucks and if you have EVER been divorced you need to show it and the final paperwork as well.
It is simliar to a normal Secret clearance process except its not DOD doing it... and they dont really check credit as much.. If you are considering a class, Please consider Gordon hutchison as he is the real deal and can tell you all you need to know about when and where you can carry, and use deadly force. GOOD LUCK.
I have always payed for it, and walked out. I've never had to wait hours or days for a gun. He makes a call, then tells me by.......Just recently got a DUI.......can't imagine that will affect it, but if fighting will, then I may be screwed......Ya'll know anything about that one???
...I knew a guy that had a special permit in
Wash.D.C.
La.State
and a previous Parish permit.
and they still make him pay background fee on hunting guns $$$$
