Swampbuck, I have shot some through my 9, but if you put one in the chamber you have to shoot it. If you try to take it out the blue casing will come off the shell and the bb's will spill out. The blue casing will be caught in the barrel.
At least this is what happened in my gun.
good luck, craig
I use the .22LR and the .38 out of double action revolvers. They work pretty well on snakes out to about 10 or 12 feet. I actually like to use the .22LR a little better to be honest. I was setting trot lines one night with a buddy and we had a very large cottonmouth fall in the boat with us. As he stuck his head over the back bench in my jon boat, I took it off for him with those shot. It did take a little paint off the boat, but barely left a dent at all. Safe to use in a boat and won't sink you if you have to shoot the bottom of the boat. The .22 uses #12 shot and the .38 uses #9.
I'm not scared of snakes, so I don't shoot them. I notice alot of people on this site are a bit girly like that. However, I do use my .22 Buckmark to shoot rats, and it does a fine job. The .22 shotshells are filled with #12 shot, and good out to around 8-10 feet, but it spreads out quick. It will not cycle the slide, so I pull it to reload.
...w/357 or 38's...ream a hole the same size of #4's w/a pointy X-Acto...shake out #12...push-in the #4's and seal hole w/wax...cotton...or 'ya bubble gum so 'ya BB mini-balls don't shake...when you see a snake !!!...What's wrong w/'ya students ???...rats have done more damage to mankind than snakes ever did...cheers
An automatic 9 will not cycle rat shot. You need a revolver or a single shot.
