It's ten lbs. right now. Check www.wlf.state.la.us to confirm.
I aske someone about the rollover not being in the refuge and was told it wasnt inside but something about the way you had to get to it or something put you in the refuge boundry.
Not being from down that way ,I'm not sure of how it works but i would DEFINANTLY talk to ldwf and get the info from them b4 i went
Rockefeller is indeed in the refuge, if you notice at the landing there is a sign that reads "Rules and Regulations of Rockefeller Refuge". To answer your questions yes their is the occasional fish to be caught in Rollover Canal my suggestion would be to drop your trolling motor and work the bank. A simple popping cork and avacoda cocahoe will do the trick! Good luck!
Your statement got me curious so I went and poked around for the refuge boundary I found them in a few places. The most accurate one I found was this link:
http://conzo.dnr.state.la.us/INDBDS/MINBOARD/MINLEASE/112006/pdf1120066/38718-38727.pdf
Download this pdf file and go to page 26. Rotate this picture clockwise to get a good perspective. North facing up. Look at how the boundary takes over the canal when it dog legs to the east, from then on it looks like the boundary is the canal.
The way that I found out Rollover was in the refuge was when I got there before sun up and launched. I drove a half mile down the Canal and saw a big pile of boats just waiting right there in the canal,(where the map shows the boundary) probably about 15 boats. At sun up they all hauled but to the weir's to get after the shrimp.
Be careful about motoring around in rollover before sun-up, and make sure to abide by refuge rules when you are in it.
You can't hardly miss for crabs at Rockefeller. Anywhere, the best spot to tear em up is a place they call crab lake. You come to the first T in the rockefeller canal and head right. You go down to the second water control structure on the right. There is a big flat out behind it, that is called crab lake by some of my friends. When the tide is going out there are more crabs there than you would ever want.
ray, thanks for all the info about rollover and rockafella with areas and limits, etc. One of your last statments got me wondering about the 42 dozen crabs in 2 vehicles, I thought that would be over the limit? the limits are different for vehicles and boats? I have also heard stories of people running their 25 pound limits of shrimp to their vehicle parked out of the refuge then running back over and over again to reach the 100 pound limit of shrimp, this doesnt sound legal but when you look at it from the standpoint that the truck is not on the refuge and the shrimp season is open it could possibly be viewed as being legal.
Don't forget i think shrimp season closed in that area you can only keep 10 lbs now.
