Beach Access

Reply

Hey everyone,

I have not been able to come down to the fourchon/grand isle area in several years. I am looking at trying to make a trip down with my kayak. Is there anywhere to launch kayak in order to fish fourchon rock barges? Or any beach access along elmers? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Take care!

Re: Beach Access
I just went yesterday. There is beach access at Elmer's Island but bring your wheels...it's a long drag across the sand to get to the water but it's doable without. Public access at Elmer's will put you a little less than 2 miles from Caminada Pass.

The Fourchon rock barges are another story. Since the road closure to Fourchon beach I'm not sure of any 'legal' easy access to the rock barges via kayak.

sorry, last question. Does the road to Elmer's still open about 30 minutes prior to sunrise?

Re: Beach Access
It was open when I got there and that was about 30 mins to actual sunrise. I think that is the general rule.

They are doing work on all the small bridges going to Grand Isle...there are temporary redlights where it goes to one lane...might want to allow 10 minutes ore so extra to the time table. The turn to Elmer's is right before the bridge where they are doing work but you can still get back there.

theres also a kayak launch at the game warden camp on the back side of the island good access to the rocks and islands there in case the wind on the beach is coming in from the south
