Duck boat build project registration

Reply

I have been considering a project to build my own aluminum boat and throwing a gator tail on the back but I have heard of people having a lot of difficulties getting homemade boats registered. If I were to build a boat from scratch, what would I need to do in order to be able to legally take it out on public waters?

Just have to save your receipts for purchasing the materials. Contact Wildlife and Fisheries, they will send out an agent to look at your boat. They have to see your paperwork for proof that you paid taxes on the materials. I don't think the boat has to float, it's all about the taxes. After he sees the boat and papers, he will assign it a Hull Identification Number. Then, you can complete the registration process, just like any other boat.

He’s correct. As long as you have proof of materials purchased and tax paid they will assign you a Hull I D number. The ability to float is optional as long as you greased the gubberment.
