Catfishing Help!

Reply

I'm originally from Crowley, but reside and work in Baton Rouge these days and would like some help finding the nearest (50mi radius) spots for decent sized catfish to big cats. I've tried going under the bridge and Port Allen along the Mississippi, but it's supremely snaggy due to so many large branches. Once these Temps balance out, I'd love to tackle these guys.

I appreciate everything, guys!

Try the old ferry landings in St. Francisville and New Roads. My uncle usually launches from there but has been bank fishing recently. There is a road across from the restaurant/bar that leads to more areas to bank fish. Last he told me a couple weeks ago the road washed out right past the area where they form the mats that line the river so beware driving the gravel road. The stretch between New Roads and Port Allen has given up some pretty big cats for my uncles and dad. Have seen them go out and catch 7-8 fish and have 150-175 lbs of fish easy. Have seen them bring home 60+ pounders regularly. They usually use shad or slicker (skipjack). If you can cast for bait they like small Asian Carp too.

Banheadzinc,My favorite river these days, the Tchefuncte,is loaded up with plenty of catfish, blues, channels and tabby's and most folks use limb lines but I about guarantee ya dat fishing from the bank using nightcrawlers should work.I have caught some on tube jigs under a cork while jigging for sac au lait but only when the tube jig reaches the bottom.Little Alabama Bayou(Sherburne WMA)also should have plenty of catfish possibly a tad closer for ya.Hope dat helps!!!

Mandevillian

P.S.Heard False River(much closer for ya)holds plenty,nightcrawlers should work!!
