Shoulda known today gonna be one dem dayz dat ya question ya sanity and it certainly was -start to abrupt end.Started with launching solo and having Southfork slide off trailer tad quicker than I anticipated and she ended up on opposite side of bayou, thinking quickly tried to retrieve by putting on chest waders but could readily tell dat water was tad deeper and not gonna happen so Plan B went into effect-call Chad Almquist,co-owner of Canoe and Trail Adventures and his mom lives literally right next to launch. After the obligatory good-natured ribbing, walked to his mom's fine estate, she assisted me with getting fine light weight canoe(red)and made my way through frozen bayou and retrieved wayward Southfork. She was an ornery gal today, refusing to start and battery starting running down, again no big deal,Wifey had given me nice jump-charger and hooked it up,still no go and almost considered making paddle-in hunt and coulda done it but time not on my side so I drove back to Chad's mom's place, returned canoe(shoulda borrowed green one-coulda used Palmetto branches and hunted out of green canoe)and did see fine doe across from launch,hint,hint-maybe I needs to climb in my stand while boat at Chuck Evans' shop, though he cannot take her til tomorrow.Bad news is I might be forced to do paddle-in hunt and not such a bad idea since I never shy from long-azz paddles to keep away from all but the die-hards like me and if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.Ducks nowhere near easy-to-get to,especially where I hunt and love it dat way, keeps folks away, unless they want the back-breaking push-poling,butt bustin' work I routinely go through!!!Hope to get ole Southfork back tomorrow evening but will have Plan B,C,D,E ready to roll some greenheads!!Like ole Phil says, smack em in de face, fellas!!
