Inshore fishing business questions

I have a few questions that some of you all might be able to help me with. I am looking into starting a charter company in the Venice area of Louisiana. Being from alabama I do not have many connections or know how things work with charters in this area. I have recently bought a sportsman 227 masters series boat that I am thinking about using As my main boat. Hopefully the business prospers and we can possibly venture into the offshore side as well. As I said I am from Alabama and will not personally be in this area full time. I fish as a hobby now but if I could hook up with the right person I would be interested in turning this into a small business.

Are there people in this area that would be interested in becoming a captain but do not want to front the start up of a business? As I mentioned earlier, I have already purchased a really nice and expensive boat. I fish as a hobby but would not mind partnering with someone that lives in the area and would like to venture into becoming a captain.

Re: Inshore fishing business questions
First, you need to call w@fishiers to find out if they are giving out new charter boat licenses?? Last I heard they had stoppd because too many people wantd to start the same kind of bus.. Plu you need to find out what type of insurance is needed, and how much.. then you need a reliable person that has the captain's licence.. Then you need customers, not so easy to get.. How do you plan to market your new business, with an enormous amount of compition.. I know the owner of cypress cove marina, and could possible get a few customers from him.. But you need to be located in venice, and ready to go at a moments notice. Venice, is a tough place to charter from, since the amount of available charters are already in place.. I've been hunting and fishing the venice area since I was 10 years old. Now I am 65. I had one of the first camps on the camp canal. down Grand Pass.. Plus in the summer, it's tuff because of high river, so you have to travel a ways to get to any kind of really good fishing. Then most people need a place to stay over night.. Rough business to get started in.. Need a lot more stuff than just a boat and captian.. Good luck, and if I can be of anymore assistance, just give me a holler... Thanks, Mark (tex150@eatel.net)
