Ended 2017 with two great trips to Delacroix, We went out Friday the 29th thinking the trout would be on the bottom in deeper water with the freezing weather, but tried 1 spot without a bite, so we were making our way to Oak River to fish the bottom there. We never start our trips early in the morning in the winter because of the cold weather and we wait until the sun comes up to warm the water a little before we start out, around 10am to 11am. Before we got to Oak River i wanted to make a stop close to the river in shallower water and try fishing under a cork where we caught fish in similar conditions in the past. We made one short drift and caught 2 trout right off, so we threw the cajun anchor and proceeded to catch our 50 trout in about 2 1/2 hours. I asked my buddy on the boat ride back if he wanted to come back Saturday and try again and sure enough on Saturday, we wound up back in the same spot the next early afternoon and proceeded to catch another 50 trout in about 1 1/2 hours. The winter trout bite is back close in this year in Delacroix after a disappointing winter last year.
