Passing a tradition down!

During the Christmas holidays, it's common for many school age students to hunt or fish with their Dads. This was the case of 9 year old, Matthew Roy. A 4th grader from John Curtis, who had been a deer hunter for 3 years. They were invited to make a deer hunt with his grandfather in the Lake Verret swamp. Matthew had to tromp 200 yards in the swamp to reach his stand on a wintery morning. They were using dogs on this morning and 3 deer pushed right pass Matthew's stand. 2 does an then an 8 point. ' My dad let's me hunt with a 20 gauge Ithaca pump. I was using 2 - 3/4inch #3 buckshot. I got excited when I heard the dogs coming my way. Then out of nowhere 3 deer pop out. I could see the horns but didn't have much time to react. I put the bead of my gun on his shoulder and fired. The deer kept moving, so I pumped another shell into the chambers an fired again. He was about 40 yards from me. I saw him stop by a tree and had a hard time standing. Then he went down. When I reached the deer my dad, Damon Roy, walked up. This is a monster dad! ' Matthew Roy recalls. The deer had a 16 inch inside spread an on its way to be mounted. 'This was Matthew's 1st horned deer! I think I have a lifetime deer hunter on my hands!' Damon Roy said.
