Do you pay a lease on that or do you own it? Sounds lucrative to me making profit on free land.

Guiding On Public Land
There is no law against it. Period. Most of the Flooded Timber hunts in Arkansas are on Public Land. Same goes to Elk Hunting in CO. hundreds of thousands of acres of Public hunting that lots of guids make a living on. So if you yall dont like it, keep your ignorant comments to yourself bc there has been guides on Catahoula for as long as i can remember.

Bill Collector
What's it to you if he is guiding? Of course it is not illegal to guide on public land. Have you ever been on a guided fishing trip, specks or offshore, surely those people do not own or lease the gulf of mexico? unless they do? please correct me if I'm wrong. Unless you have some written law to prove to people that they are wrong, why accuse someone of something or even make a smart comment. Makes no sense, just make you sound like the idiot you are.

There is nothing ignorant about it. I did not say it was illegal. Just dont make it sound like the only way you can hunt Catahoula is if you go with a guide because that is not true. If you dont want to be called out for BS than dont post it. Keep the guide advertisments out of the reports section. Thanks,

Come on man.
'Must be nice to guide hunts on LDWF public property. Maybe I will try that where I hunt and see what happens'
'sounds lucrative to make money on guiding public land'

Those two quotes sure do sound like your trying to say that there is something wrong with guiding on public land.

I know lots of people who pay to hunt Catahoula - it's a certain experience for people who never have had that particular opportunity. I watch 'the honey brake experience' often on the pursuit channel and they are always taking clients hunt on Catahoula, just for the experience. Tell that to those 'suckers'

Come on man.

Haters are going to hate
Yes Catahoula is public land. But unless you want to fight the lake to build a decent blind and put 500 plus decoys out, it is best to go on a guided hunt. Not everyone has the time to do what is necessary to hunt the lake. Also new comers have the fight the Caddos on the lake. Bowmaster do what you do brother. There are not a lot of people who have witnessed the number of ducks that are on the lake.

Only 1 hater
There's only 1 hater on this thread, and he says, 'Keep the guide advertisments out of the reports section.'

Really? Did he miss all the threads on this forum started by guides advertising their services?

I get lots of complaints about guiding at Catahoula Lake, but it is indeed legal. It is not a WMA, so it doesn't fall under WMA rules, which ban guiding. We have conducted a couple of hunter-opinion surveys, and banning guides is always one of the most favored management alternatives from respondents. We all know the foundation for that is competition for places to hunt, specifically private blind locations. I know I wouldn't want to compete with guides.

Guides provide a valuable service to hunters that don't have, or don't want to maintain, the equipment to hunt. Catahoula Lake is one of those places where using a guide might be very beneficial, even if you just want to learn how things are done before doing it yourself. There is a learning curve in places like that where private blinds dominate the hunting area.

Hunting Guides
In my opinion if you dont know how, dont have the equipment, or dont want to deal with the work and maintenance of duck huntng then dont do it. It shows a lack of passion for the activity and hence is the reason why we have a large number of people who dont know what they are doing and pressuring the few birds we do have out of the area. Just because you go with a guide one time does not mean you know what you are doing all of a sudden. Duck hunitng is a privladge and requires knowledge and work. If the people not willing would stay home, it would prevent the overcrowding and ridiculous amount of presssure on the birds. But LDWF won't make any changes. the more hunters the more money in the form of liscense sales. Even if thay have to put people hunting the draiange canals for lack of a hunting area.

HUH????
collector - so someone in Louisiana shouldn't go on an elk hunt unless they go on public land and DIY? What about a red stag hunt in New Zealand? African safari? What about people that don't live in a flyway that want to duck hunt? Or me, that wants to take my aging father on a last hunt but can't afford a lease, decoys and everything else that comes with duck hunting?
If someone that lives where there are no saltwater fish and wants to catch a marlin, they should buy a huge boat and learn how to do it on their own? Or can they hire a charter?

Idiot
Bill collector is an idiot - hate to be so negative towards him, but he makes it impossible to have reasonable discussions. I suspect he is one of those guys who blames everyone else for lack of production, particularly DU and suggest that people in the states north of us shouldn't have the same opportunities as us.

Why complain, just leave!!
Catahoula isn't soley public!!! Before you gripe about it, do a little research !! The lake is primarily public then you have the restricted area for resting fowl out in the middle. The parts i wish i could hunt seem to be private areas of the lake. Hunted it twice last year, during that extreme cold spell where it was all surrounded in ice! Covered in canvasbacks, teal,a few wigeons, very few green heads . I took some pics to look back on during the off season. Had to be a couple hundred thousand birds on the lake , no joke!!! You guide on the north side and southwest part of the lake? If you're okay with telling me I'm interested to know. Not here to bash you I'm all for qualified hunters showing newbies how to hunt like a pro, i wish more learned from good guides/veteran hunters before they went out on their own! What are your rates,What area do you guide in?!
