Freshwater Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana

Toledo Bend Chicken Coop 2013

Anglers,

Chicken Coop was good this past week (1/22/13 - 1/27/13). Our group caught consistent in 35-40 feet on shiners exclusively. While not everyone fishing the coop acheived limits, the fish are there in good numbers. The key is to find structure on the drop offs. If you can find that, in the right depth range, youre more likely to catch quantity and quality fish.

The heavy rains usually make deep water pattern fishing difficult, and like previous years at the chicken coop heavy rains stain the water and raise the surface temperature; but that hasn't been the case this year.

Surface temperature was 51 on Tuesday and rose to 53 on Sunday. Females were full of eggs and shows the spawn is 3-4 weeks away depending on cold fronts. Typically, surface temperature of 58 on the main lake will begin the spawning migration to areas of warmer temperature of 60-65 degrees.

The lake is 169.61 which, if the authority doesnt pull too much water from the lake, will make for a great spawning season for all species of fish on Toledo Bend.

If you're planning a trip to the Chicken Coop during the winter or to Toledo during the spawning season and want advice, please feel free to contact us.

Good Luck for the 2013 fishing season.
