Fishing after a hurricane?

In the past how has a hurricane effected the fishing the week or two weeks after the storm? Not talking about snags, more like were they biting more, less, etc..

Fishing

We went the week after gustav and ike hit, The fishing was unreal for trout, every cast was a fish on, The bayou was loaded with grass wads and just took a while to get out, Went a ways and then had to put the motor in reverse and sling the grass off, Suggest going out after good safe light too

Fish

The fishing is usually great but be careful and watch for floating debris and things under the water the high water pushes in things good and bad

Don't think there will be much fishing

Water is over almost ever road marina and dock right now. Bass fishing is going to take a beating but the saltwater fishing will be in the fresh water lakes.

fishing will be super

Most marinas have been severely damaged/flooded out. The situation is going to be sad, and I hope we can help them with our business. Keep Campo's, Breton Sound Marina, Sweetwater, Serigne's, Reggio, Point A La Hache in your prayers, they got an 11-ft storm surge.

With that said, the fishing will be great. The trout were already transitioning inside, and now the hot stagnant water has been flushed out. Lots of baitfish will be pushed in the marsh as well. Storm minnows should also be available.

Also, according to the tide gauges, salinities are now 30 ppt in many places. This is great because saltwater fish like saltwater, not these 5-10 ppts that have been forced on us by these stupid freshwater diversions that have not grown 10 feet of new marsh. The fishing will be superb if we can get out in it.

Fish

Most big storms are great for saltwater fish . We normally catch limits of speckled trout in the north shore rivers . Croakers , jack crevalle , it crazy to see these fish in the same waters we caught sacalait in last week .

The fresh water fish on the other hand , bad news usually ... The sacalait and bass were just making a come back from Katrina . It doesn't normally affect the pond fish , only tidal waters . In my opinion , there will be another massive fish kill . So I'm guessing we will have to oil up the old salt water rod n reels to catch any fish .

Next week

Next week I'll be posting pics of a limit of speckled trout . Hopefully !! Probably out the mouth of the tickfaw river or the Amite . If we can't find many trout we'll catch a box of bull croaker or redfish .

We are going to wait a week just out of respect for people that didn't fare well in the storm . It's flooded really bad still on the north shore of lake Maurepas . The water is dropping quickly now though , maybe 5 ft since this am by the looks of my back yard .

In the years after the big storms , we have loaded up on the speckled trout and croakers using a solid white split tail sparkle beetle with a 1/4 ounce red jig head tipped with shrimp .
We haven't seen any dead freshwater fish floating yet in the rivers , so hopefully they are going to make it through it this go round . My fingers are crossed for sure .

Fishing

Saltwater usually is good to great in areas farther inland than normal. Freshwater, look for (freshwater)fish kills. The higher the storm surge, the worse the kill on freshwater fish. It may take months to years for a come back to what it was. Sometimes, never.
