I just had this happen to my 2008 Yamaha 225. All electronics powered up and worked, but when I went to crank the motor, nothing, not even a sound. It turned out to be a bad ground on the motor block. Turn your key to the start position and wiggle the helm in neutral position while holding the key on. If my helm is not in the perfect position in neutral, it won't crank. If that doesn't do it and all fuses check good, it's probably a bad connection. ALSO, when checking fuses, use a meter because sometimes you can't see the break with your naked eye.
Good Luck!!!
if you really want help then you need a much better description of EXACTLY what works and doesnt work. not trying to start it do you see the guages light up and come on? do they have any readings? when you turn the key do you hear a click? do the guages dim when you try to start? does the voltage guage drop and if so how far? have you temporarily tried another battery yet just to see if it works? (try using jumper cable from your car battery, make sure its with the car NOT running)
it could be a bad key switch, it could be a bad starter solenoid, it could be a bad starter, it could be a thoudsand things but with no info other then turned key and nothing works is difficult.
you need a test meter that reads 12 volts dc current and tests ohms as well, you can buy them at walmart or radio shack. then test
My 90 Yamaha negative battery lead blew apart inside the plastic covering a couple of inches from the battery connection and caused me intermitent problems for sometime. On another note, once when removing my boat cover I had bumped the shift lever, but not enough to see that it moved and was diagnosing all the elctrical parts and fixing to spend some money on parts or mechanic, if I would not have relized what happened a month after the fact, duh.
My fuse kept blowing . Couldn't find the short , looked up n down high n low . Finally gave up and brought it to a mechanic . Come to find out my short was in my trim button on the shifter . The guy said it took him so long to find it he had to charge me $180.00 !! He did replace my trim button . $15.00 ? I hate bringing my stuff anywhere to get fixed !
As of now my new trim button is unhooked and if I want to trim up or down I have to touch the wires together ... Lol so it still needs to be fixed .
What fuses have you checked ? There is an inline fuse that goes to the starter . If it won't turn over or do anything , that's probably your problem . Usually if it's blown you have a short somewhere .
