The only hair jig I use is during spring time . It's a slator jig , solid black . They are hard to find sometimes so when I find them I usually buy a bunch . The jig is 1/16 ounce , head is shiny black , body is black chenille , and the tail is squirrel tail black . There is also a gold and silver slither of metallic looking strands coming out of the tail .

I also use a tube jig that has brown body and orange skirt with black spots in the skirt . And also a black and blue tube jig , both with unpainted jig heads . Those colors all catch good for me during the spring but the black hair jig will catch 3 to 1 to the other colors .

Like I said they hard to find and was thinking that I may end up having to order some . I would like to see the brown and orange in a hair jig with the spots in the tail . That would be hard to beat for spring time .

Summer and winter I like to use black n chartreuse , blue n chartreuse , with chartreuse jig heads . Sometimes solid white or chartreuse head and white body . And sometimes I use pink heads on all those colors . But all of those are tube jigs or the solid body jigs . I have some hair jigs but rarely use them , other than the solid black .

There are tons of colors out there and I have a bunch in my box but those are the primary colors I use . I've just recently started noticing they are finally selling bigger jigs like the 2' and even saw some 3' jigs . I'm glad of that because I like using the bigger jigs during the fall .

I started jig fishing with slaters jigs. Tried almost every color, hard to beat white in feb-mrch-aprl. Like choupic said, the tensil strip is most important. I mostly fish tube jigs now blue/white mainly. Be sure and us nibbets, they really matter.

I tie the tinsle strip in all my jigs,
The silver or the hologram .
I use jigs for specks under the lights at grand isle .That is what got me started tying.
Most of the jigs you can buy have to small of a gap in the hooks.
I found a 1/16 oz size 4 sickle hook gives you the wide gap you need for specks and works real well for sacalait too.
