NAVIONICS MAPPING FOR A HDS GEN 2 UNIT
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~Ameyer6~
The Navionics Platatinum + (Plus) is the top of the Navionics line of mapping programs. Product 907P+ retails for about $400, comes in a Secure Digital (SD) and Micro SD format and covers the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa FL to Brownsville TX.
Double check your choice with a stocking Lowrance and Navionics Dealer to be sure that you get the proper version for your GPS unit.

I have the HDS 5 Gen 2 and the Navionics Platinum Plus chip. The chip is called Central Gulf of Mexico. It also has a number on it, but I can't remember it offhand. The Platinum Plus is the chip that puts a satellite image on your screen, literally just like Google Earth. Your Gen 2 unit will allow you to adjust the photo overlay on the screen, to make it look like a straight satellite image or a detailed tradiotional basemap like an older unit. You can go to Bayou Electronics on Paris Road and they will put the Central Gulf of Mexico chip in the display HDS 7 Gen 2 floor model, and you'll be able to scroll around to your main fishing area and see exactly what you are buying. It will cover the area you want, plus a whole lot more. It even covers really far inland.
