Not a charter captain-- I only fish offshore a little more than you, but I recently discovered butterfly jigging and really like the Battle 7000 and 8000 reels. They're a good value for the price, and the next step up would probably be the Shimano Stradic 8000FJ, at more than twice the price.
I've paired them with the Shimano Trevala (S and F) jigging rods and LOVE those rods. My only complaint is that the reel seats on the Trevala S are too small to fit any Penn Battle (even down to the Battle 4000) without grinding down the reel foot. The Ugly Stick would probably not have this problem, not to mention being cheaper than the Shimano rod.
I have a Fin nor Marquesa ma30 I really like they make it in a two sppeed model as well. I ripped up some big AJs without a problem. It holds allot of line very light and has 42 lbs of drag. Look it up on Fin nor's website. I have it on a Okuma cedros jigging rod it has aluminum reel seats and gimbal. Depending on the action you get you can fish up to 200 lb braid. The reel is about $370 and the rod is about $110 however you can find the reel on ebay new for around $270. I'm about to add another one to my collection. I also realy like my Shimano Talica but price starts to get up there $500+ for the reel.
