Patterning a Shotgun?

I recently got some new chokes for my O/U. How do you guys pattern your guns/chokes/ammo? What distances do you use as benchmarks? Any input and/or smartass comments are appreciated.

Patterning Gun

If you aren't dead set on doing it yourself, you can send it to someone. There is a guy in Minnesota that will shoot your gun, with all the different rounds and different chokes and then send you the gun back and tell you what to use. Some guys I know that deer hunt with dogs send their guns to him. I think he charges $100.

Oops

Sorry, I just reread your OP and obviously you will not want to send the gun off as you already have some chokes for it. I patterned my gun last year and used 35 and 50 yard benchmarks. Pretty amazing to see the spread difference in just 15 yards.

Eesh

Said he ended up not having time for it and sent it off. But he said with a little research on the internet you can get a good idea of what actually needs to be done. As far as ammunition and chokes, you have to use a combination and see what gives the best results. every gun, choke, and ammo combo is differnent. For turkey shoot at 40 yards and for ducks between 30-40 yards

Perch jerck

Also try different shells (name brand and size) I have found that remington might do better in one gun and not another. I Know that sounds crazy and will probally will here about that one but its true in my case.Different chokes and shells make a difference. I found this out turkey hunting.Do not think some high dollar chokes are not worth it,they are.

Patterns

I remember the lead days very well ... We thought it was rediculous and I haven't really duck hunted since . But I'm pretty sure you use different loads per different chokes and the distance is 40 yds . Put a sheet of plywood up 4X8 with a piece of cardboard or paper for your target so you can reset your targets after each shot . It's not hard to do , a lot of people like tighter patterns than the more spread out . Like Clint Eastwood in pale rider , he sawed his barrels off on that ole side by side . He wanted a wider spread to make sure he hit what he was pointing at cause he was half blind . But if your shooting duck , you should go with the tightest pattern you can get , if you have good eye sight .

let me see??? i always wondered, how far ducks fly south for the winter, now i know??? if they flew much furthur, they would be in the south pole and they would fly, the only way left, north for the winter, impossibe, ducks only fly south for the winter, a proven scientific fact??? lead legal in nicaragua, of course, cocainne is too, no surprise!!! do ducks in nicaragua, quack the same as ducks here, or do they have an accent??? u asked for it, u got it!!!!

Good deed indeed

Nothing wrong with that , that's awesome . With four children we have tons of hand-me-downs . My wife had 6 garbage bags of used clothing in the living room going to good will when I got home yesterday .

I've been to matamoros once and we've been on a few cruises , twice to cancun . We have poor people in our country but for the most part people here don't know how good we have it . Besides being poor those people south of the border have to worry about the cortel . They have absolutely no value of life . They would just as soon cut your head off as to look at you .

I also know a few guys from Brownsville tx. and they have family in matamoros but don't think about crossing the border to go visit because of the cortel. Anyways ... That's a good thing y'all do .

Drewb I forgot to ask you ... Is your shot gun in 3 inch chamber ? Like 99 % of duck hunters especially the ones who hunt the marsh use 3 inch , and a good buddy uses # 4 shot .
