We've caught thousands of catfish and Ive never seen one of those in the wild before . You caught two in the same night . That's crazy . One looks like a bullhead blue and the other a regular blue I think ... Thanks for the pics
Those are really cool fish, the fact that you caught them the same night and in the same area is amazing. Have you showed these pics to a biologist. I would like to hear their comments. Could it be a genetic trait in that area?
Thats them down river from DOW Plaquemine cats. How did they taste?
I used to go fish the miss. river when I was a kid . We've never eaten the fish out the river for that reason , but would give them to some people we knew . They never complained about how they tasted , and were always thankful .
But two albinos in one fishing trip ?? There has to be something more to it than that !
That's about the same odds as hitting the lottery twice . Is that possible for chemicals from a plant to make a fish albino ?
Wow two in one night! Thanks for sharing.
Way back when I was growing up on a farm in north Louisiana my uncle stocked a few thousand cats in one of our biggest ponds. One of them was white. I hunted him like Ahab for most of my childhood lost him once when sis tried to net him the line broke and I cried like my dog up and died. Was bout 6 or 8 years later I caught him. One a trout line baited with scented hot dogs. Then my pop cut my head off in the only picture we have of um. Heh bout a 15lb channel catfish, all white with pink eyes.
Not sure if chemicals can cause albino but they can cause other mutations and I am pretty sure that mutations could cause the trait to develope, then its just passed on.
'Most forms of albinism are the result of the biological inheritance of genetically recessive alleles (genes) passed from both parents of an individual, though some rare forms are inherited from only one parent. There are other genetic mutations which are proven to be associated with albinism.'
Dragscreemer, they taste like the rest, great.
Choupic-Man, both in the same night is unusual but true, and good luck to you in the Gar Rodeo next week, I'll be there myself.
Oh yeah just thinking what I'm going to buy with all that money we going to win off that rodeo !! Lol nah just kidding . My son can't wait , he's been ready to fish it since last years rodeo . We did go catch a few mullet this morning , just trying to get geared up and not hunting mullet on the last day . rnrnWe'll be in a 18' aluminum skiff ... Hope y'all lots of luck on the rodeo also !rnrnNice albinos ! That was cool ...
Glad to hear they tasted good. I would have ate them too. Even thought many really wont eat out of the river.
Whatever you catch and eat out the river at donaldsonville is the same as eating them out the river at Venice ... I would think if they were toxic , they would be more toxic down river . Lol
