Freshwater Fishing in Venice in Southeast Louisiana

Venice Bass
Venice
Bass fishing in the Venice area is off the chart. The river is down and the water is clean. Grand, Batiste Collette, down river, the area does not matter. Anglers should move until some fish are found. Just stick close to the river or passes. Look for spots where the tide is coming around a point but not ripping through the area. Stanley spinnerbaits, Havoc's, or just a red shad worm will work. When the tide is rising or high, flip as far back into the canes as possible. Go heavy - 20# mono or fluoro or bigger, 65# braid or bigger and 7'6' flipping sticks. When the tide is falling, throw moving bait until a stretch of bank is found with fish. Fish tend to stage in spots where there is cover (stumps, trees, laydowns) and protection from the hard moving tide. Hopefully, the action will last until the fall. Flipping the canes is about as fun as bass can get.

Why would 20# mono be heavy enough and some one would need 65# braid or bigger? I have caught 50# fish on 40# braid. I would think if you needed 65# braid you would need 65# mono or bigger to be equal?!
