The park is just as good a place as any on the beach. The fish move up and down the beach. I think there's a slight advantage in the park because there's less people. Don't go deep. The fish are near the shore if you don't spook them. Try to stay away from swimmers and crabbers. I like to throw a big ole crab on the bottom and stake it in the sand during the middle of the day. Fish really early and really late. Use the hottest time during the middle of the day to relax in the shade.

Thanks for the info Guy in the White boots. I will do my best to put it to good use next Tuesday through Saturday I will be camping on the beach. One more question for you what tide is best to flounder?

Hey Boots, that's a new one on me. What's the reason for staking the crab on the bottom?

yeah u rite drew. I put a whole small crab or 1/2 a big one on a big spinning rod staked in the sand during the middle of the day, so I can chill out from regular jig fishing and wait for a big red or drum to pick it up. Those big boys go up and down the beach looking for crabs. It's slow fishing, but if your chilling, who cares. I use this method during the middle of the day when I'm watching the kids.

I want to thank every one for the tips, I normally fish Elmers. I figure since I willmbe camping on the beach in the park for the rodeo it would be a lot less of a hassle to fish the park rather then fight the traffic to get to Elmers. In all my years I have never had a chance to atend the Tarpon rodeo.

Guess I was having a 'Duhh' moment there. Should have figured that one out. Lord knows I've soaked enough crabs myself. Thought maybe Boots had some secret trick up his sleeve.

Naw no tricks here. I did go to South Lafourche High School, so my english skills ain't too good. ADD too.

I will also be on the island with family and friends. Not staying on the beach but a hotel in the middle of the island. I expect there to be a lot of people that weekend, but will it be too much to deal with for just going to elmers island and the rocks behind bridgeside? Really looking forward to a fun weekend but dont want the hassle of large crowds overpopulating the road and parking lots.

sounds like a good time, thanks drew. I go to grand isle several times a year to surf fish, but never been during the rodeo. Any more pointers or things I should know, bring, or be prepared for?
