The hull can easily handle the 50 hp outboard. I had a 60 hp Johnson on the same hull for over 20 years. I just put a new 70 hp Yamaha on the same boat several weeks ago. Check the Repower post I made under the BOATS forum. Sounds like you have the same boat I have with the exception that my rig has a side console and some bass swivel seats mounted. Based on what you are hauling the 50 hp will be a great improvement.
...everything each said was correct...seems some don't see the safety of wheel vs tiller w/anything over 35 HP...'ya guys made me re-read my post three times ???...stiil check the Coast Guard plate and Geronimo sez: 'it still not funny when little skeg hits big stump at 45-50 mph and 'ya hang'n on big tiller stick instead of safe round wheel' ???...Ugh !!!
i agree with the admiral, but, thats why they put throttles on outboards!!! if you think u are going to fast and its not safe and are uncomfortable with the speed, just slack off the throttle, problem solved!!! i would rather have a little too much power, than be underpowered!! its much better to be able to run at three quarter throttle, than wide open. motor will last longer and burn less gas!! my common opinion??? some people mite think, its an uncommon opinion???
...'ya right on the 'Half Dozen Roses Margin'...if you went w/the 50 many would suggest the control console...a 50 'tiller' can get 'out of hand' real quick if you hit anything!!!(also check the Coast Guard tag)... cheers
P/S...and 'da Monks keep hammer'n away !!!
