Kayak Fishing in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana
south point and twin spans fishing
Going out in yak for first trip to south point and twin spans area. Plan to launch along Highway 11 Irish Bayou launch by bait shop. Would appreciate any advice as to baits, lures, techniques or areas to fish. Plan on trying to catch specks on live shrimp below popping cork or jig head off bottom at spans.
Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.
ALSO, does anyone know if the frontage road along HWY 11 is open to the public as this would make launch past levee possible and a very short trip to the trestles. Thanks for any input.
FISHING report update:
Put in near bait shop and fished marsh grass going back toward the refuge. Caught mix of species including speck (small ones only) red (2 nice ones) catfish (several) sheepshead (huge one) Needlefish and other nuisance were good at stealing bait. Action was fun but fish were not biting steady and never found a honey hole. Had planned to fish span but forgot my life vest so chose marsh instead. Action was not steady like u see at trestle or span. Bring plenty of hydration as it is hot and there is no where to find shade. Bottom is shallow mud flat with few oyster clam and mussel shells near shore line. Fished with shrimp below popping cork
Will try area again and hopefully find steady productive area

I have a SIK, how rough is it around that area? Would u recommend fishing out of a SIK? Did you use a sock or anchor? Ive never fished openwater in my yak, only freshwater so Im wondering how it would be. THanks
