Pen, Dupont, and Perot are some of the best spots close to the launches. I have been doing good with a crank bait along some shores that do not have too much grass and a spoon and spiner in the grass beds. Limited on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday last week. Caught 5 Wednesday between 5 and dark on a Mid 1- blue shad in Perot. Good luck.
First no one slows down in Lafitte this is a given. So get on plan as soon as you can. There are shell reefs that can cause you problems. A good rule is if you see a white pole or several white poles give area a wide birth. If you plan to fish inside you will find shallow water all over the place with quick sand mud. A good sounder is a must if you plan to fish in the dock ponds. Your best bet is to go on a very high tide and use your sounder to give you an idea of what you have. Bayou DuPont is an accident looking to happen. Some of the canals off of DuPont have bulk heads across them. Great place to fish but does take some time to map out. Running to GI and fishing Barataria bay should be no problem.
if you want to make a quick trip, i say the PEN is a pretty close and reliable place to fish, you wont get schools of reds but they will be in there, especially the opening. if you going with some people and want to do a little exploring, ride down bayou rigolets and head to little lake, this time of year, reds be schooling along the rock walls, stinky ol market shrimp should do the job, on a cork or just plain on jig head.
